Acerca de esta escucha
A lush debut novel in the vein of Kathleen Tessaro’s international best seller, Elegance, about a beautiful woman working as a model for Christian Dior in post-war Paris, who discovers astonishing secrets about herself and the fabulous people around her.
Raised on a vast Australian sheep farm, the beautiful Grace Woods is compelled to travel to tumultuous, post-war Paris in order to start a new life. While working as a glamorous model for Christian Dior, the world’s newly acclaimed emperor of fashion, Grace mixes with counts and princesses, authors and artists, diplomats and politicians.
Amongst those she befriends are Pablo Picasso, Julia Child, and the future Jackie Kennedy. But when Grace falls in love with the handsome Phillippe Boyer, she doesn’t know that he is leading a double life, nor that his past might hold secrets and lies that will turn her life upside down.
Based on a true story, The Paris Model by debut fiction author Alexandra Joel, is an unforgettable tale of glamour, family secrets, and heartbreak.

Historia
As the war begins, Hanna Rombauer, a young German woman, is sent to live with her aunt and uncle after her mother’s death. Thrown into a life of luxury she never expected, Hanna soon finds herself unwillingly matched with an SS officer twenty years her senior. The independence that her mother lovingly fostered in her is considered highly inappropriate as the future wife of an up-and-coming officer and she is sent to a “bride school.” There, in a posh villa on the outskirts of town, Hanna is taught how to be a “proper” German wife.

Historia
At the height of World War II, the British Air Transport Auxiliary need help. A group of young women volunteer for action, but the perils of their new job don’t end on the tarmac. Things are tough in the air, but on the ground their abilities as pilots are constantly questioned. There is friction from the start between the new recruits. Spirited American Lizzie turns heads with her audacity, but few can deny her flying skills. She couldn’t be more different from shy, petite Ruby, who is far from diminutive in the sky. It falls to pragmatic pilot May to bring the women together.

Alongside her childhood friend, French-born Rose, she quickly rises up the ranks of the freedom fighters. For Rose, the Resistance is a link to her late husband, and a way to move forward without him. What starts out as helping downed airmen becomes a bigger cause when they meet Sophia, a German escapee and fierce critic of Hitler who is wanted by the Gestapo.

Enchanting Love story
Hats off to this love story and the kind ending, it was a good read and kept you on your seats to the next happening. So glad it only referenced the war and not an actual war story but the over all OVER coming of the and rebuild of Paris/ France and how those who survived continued on to live, to love.
Love any story with Paris as the back drop!

Outstanding Story of Love and Courage
This book is unique because it artfully combines historical fiction, the splendor of Paris in 1948, a sweet romance, and the courage one woman has to seek her own destiny, stay true to herself and find her path to fulfillment.

How important it is to communicate.
When we don’t talk to each other and just emotionally make assumptions, so much can be lost. Very interesting story based on that behavior.

Main Character Killed the Novel.
It’s unfortunate that the main character was such a travesty b/c otherwise the novel could have been entertaining. However, this was not the case. Grace was not only one dimensional, but she was simpering, and STUPID. Over and over she kept making the same mistakes, all the while being the most beautiful, the most charming, the best model, the best spy, the best chef, the best Christian Dior model…all in all she made me want to vomit. Raised on a sheep farm in the outback she not only becomes, without the least effort, the top model at Christian Dior, she then becomes a spy and saves the American Ambassador all while pregnant and lying to her husband & her boyfriend about her past, her life and her condition. Of course she justifies all of these lies of omission by being heartbroken over not knowing whether the child is her lovers or her husband effectively making herself into the victim…and just keeps going. I couldn’t finish the novel as I found myself wishing she’d die in childbirth. DO NOT WASTE A CREDIT…so not worth it!!
