To save a missing girl...

Dan Delgado is a private investigator. When it comes to finding cheating spouses, corporate thieves, or runaway teenagers, he’s unenthusiastic, and unmatched. As a former San Francisco detective, he misses more meaningful work, but he hasn’t had the heart for it since his wife’s death five years prior. That is, until a phone call from a distraught mother, an illegal immigrant who can’t go to the police, puts him on the hunt for a missing little girl.

By the time he reaches the mother’s small home, she’s missing, too. The circumstances are strange, but when a team of heavily armed mercenaries arrive, Delgado is convinced there is more going on than a simple kidnapping.

Joined by his wise-cracking elderly assistant, a gun-toting pastor, and a UFO enthusiast Uber driver, Delgado follows the clues west, to Colorado City, a town cleaved in two by the 37th parallel, also known as the UFO Highway. In a town infamous for fundamentalist Mormon cult activity, they uncover evidence of a massive child-trafficking ring whose ringleaders might not be human.

Delgado and crew are plunged into a dangerous world of corporate competition, UFO lore, and government cover-ups. While they hunt for answers, they’re pursued across the Southwest by high-tech mercs, brainwashed cults, and beings whose true identity has been concealed since 1947.

...he must risk the world.

UFOs and alien abductions remain some of the most hotly debated and mysterious subjects of the 21st century. In the decades since 1960, with reports of strange encounters on the rise, 13 million people have gone missing worldwide and never been found. The Others takes a fast-paced, unique, and moving look at the phenomenon that has fueled Jeremy Robinson’s imagination since several sightings, strange happenings, and visits with renowned UFO investigator and family friend Raymond Fowler.

Where do I start?

It is hard to know where to start when reviewing this book. I am torn between the wonderful narration of R. C. Bray and the disappointing story line of The Others. This is science fiction book and I expect to have to suspend my beliefs a bit, but this book required far more than that and I was just incapable of disassociating myself from the real world enough to be able to adjust to the story line.

What starts out as a case of an abducted child turns into a story about real and imagined aliens, ancient civilizations, mind control, self guilt and a serious case of animus toward the LDS church. I am not a member of that church but I found the story line involving the church so offensive that I almost stopped reading the book. I have known many fine people who were members of the church or who had family members of that church and never heard of or saw anything like the behavior described in this book. I also found the writing inelegant and the story line confused with a tendency to go off on tangents. I feel torn between feeling that being able to finish this book was a personal triumph, considering how disjointed I felt the book to be, especially the end, and the feeling that I could have saved myself 5 or 6 hours if I had just given up.

What made the book worth finishing was the wonderful narration of RC Bray, but he has to deal with the material he is given, and I do not feel that the story was worth his talents.

Not the book I was expecting, it was much better!

This was not the book I was expecting... and that's actually quite marvelous! I was expecting a typical first-contact classic area 51 kinda story, and Jeremy Robinson completely blew my mind by writing something else! Yes, this particular story trope may have been done before (it even showed up in a classic Tom Baker Doctor Who episode), but I just wasn't prepared for that Very well executed, High-G force, 180° turn...
If it's even possible, I think R.C. Bray upped his game with this book, and he sang, sometimes off key, but that's what the story needed, R.C. really captured the tone of the book, from our protagonist's wry wit, to his fiercely loyal and often outlandish assistant Wini, right down to a gun totin' Man-of-the-Cloth. Did I mention the crazed, UFO-believin' Uber driver?
I was immediately sucked into the characters lives in this story, so much so, that it'd be nice to know that Dan and Wini are still out there somewhere making the world a  safer place... LOL
So if you're ready for a helluva good ride, climb into the "Uber", and buckle-up for this action-packed book!

A very fun rollercoaster of a ride.

My 3rd Robinson book. I am now, officially, a fan. Robinson's books are farfetched but believable. His MO is to insert twists and turns that no one could see coming and this book is no acception.

He typically write stories that go in many different directions. That might be enjoyable for some and not for others. I, particularly, don't mind.

My only criticism, of this book, is that the characters that, are met along the way of the story and join in on the mission, do so without much resistance or suspicion. they're just like 'yeah. ok. I'll give up everything and I'll help you fight' after only 5 minutes of interaction.

A very fun book if you're looking for a rollercoaster of a ride.

You had me way before Fernando

What a ride!

I got this book because I love narrator RC Bray, it was on sale, and it sounded like a fun detective, fantasy, action book. I never listened to any of this author’s work before this book. Now, I’m going to have to add him to my listening roster. And I’ll even pay full price!

This was like XFiles meets the Terminator meets the Matrix, only with zanier characters and more humor. From the book summary, I had my doubts about whether I’d enjoy fiction about UFOs or fundamentalist LDS. But, just a few chapters in and I was hooked. Robinson created a great sci-fi, fantasy, horror, mystery mashup that nonetheless remains grounded and genuine. Even as the story gets way more bonkers, it still felt real.

Third arc a real letdown

I mostly enjoyed this book, some real facepalm-worthy moral equivalency arguments side.

The final act really soured me though. It was a bare step away from having all the characters join hands and singing Kumbaya. Can't say more without spoiling.

The characters were often way too melodramatic for my liking.

3* seems low for Story, I'd have probably given it 3.5 if I could, but rounded down based off how it left me feeling.

Refreshing Theme

the theme of this book makes me wonder if perhaps we are looking in the wrong place when we see lights in the sky. OK I'm a believer in UFOs and a diehard TREKIE but, you have to wonder, "I want to believe" cue the theme from the "X FILES"

An uber driver, pastor, detective, and old lady

I enjoyed this book. The story kept my interest and was humorous the whole way through. Even with a UFO body snatchers type of spin, it still was a good action detective story. I felt a realistic amount of scepticism from the detective as it progressed. Definitely worth the credit.
Side note, the comical old lady was my favorite character.

Basic story with a twist

This was one of those books I didn’t love but finished. I was invested enough to ride it out and see how it ended but it’s far from a literary masterpiece. It was good enough and had a clever twist but for the most part the lines were obvious and descriptions basic. The narration was, of course, wonderful.
