Acerca de esta escucha

John Tyler finally built the life he wanted.

But his past casts a long shadow.

Eight years retired from the army, Tyler manages his PTSD and begins a job as a classic car mechanic. He's a single dad to Lexi, who's about to enter college. Life is looking up.

Then, everything comes crashing down.

Tyler's former commanding officer is out of prison and hellbent on revenge. Their mutual hatred has been simmering for years. When it finally boils over, everyone and everything in Tyler's life is threatened.

He wanted to be a father and a mechanic. To save himself and his daughter, he'll need to use the deadly skills he thought he left behind.

Can Tyler stop a monster without becoming one himself?

good book

this was a great story. I think the main character is crazy to not see what was coming but it was a great story.

Interesting Cast of Characters

Eric Jason Martin did a good job narrating this story so filled with action, angst and revenge. He didn't do much changing for the female voices though.

John Tyler, former military, is looking for a job as a mechanic. His daughter Lexi is preparing to go to college online. Getting hired at Smitty & Son brings more work than he initially planned for, mostly because John's former Colonel has gotten out of jail and is harassing Smitty and his son. Clearly written as a background buildup for a dynamic team including John's father Zeke, daughter, Smitty's son Jake, Rollins and Sara Morrissey. Will definitely read the next one!

Boring

Maybe others would like this book better than I did. It's just not my thing, I guess. The narrator was highly annoying. I was bored most of the way through...but I finished it.

A well oiled machine.

Good characters and storyline. I liked the good guys and not the bad guys. Zoom.

Fast pace and no BS

Good story, not loaded with all the bs and bravado like other post military books.
Tyler has his demons, but is able to separate them from the here and now

An intriguing story that will hold your attention past your bedtime.

As far as I know the GTO didn't have disc brakes all 4 wheels until GM imported the car from Australia. (last chapter)

Good suspense through out. Main character very likable.

Daughters kidnap was flawed. Jake’s persecution not credible. Other flaws in storyline. Good portrayal of Vets

It had promise but sort of went off the rails.

I really wanted to like it- parts were unexpectedly witty and quip-y. I really wanted to root for the characters.
But the characters behavior was so all over the place and inconsistent. A lot of what they did didn’t make a lot of sense. Most could be categorized as people who should know better making stupid choices. The bad guys were so sloppy and impulsive it got weird. The good guys bumbling around, not taking the most minimal of precautions.
Then the last 1/2 or so it started checking every pet peeve box I have for these types of books.
It was like the author gave up on trying to have a situation unfold in a natural or realistic way (in a human behavior way) and decided to just throw in every plot point or cliche they could think of .
The narrator wasn’t bad but he wasn’t right for this book. It was so stilted and just the wrong tone—more suited to narrating a technical manual or science book.
