Acerca de esta escucha

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille returns with a “genuinely thrilling” (The New York Times) suspense novel featuring his most popular character, former NYPD homicide detective John Corey, called out of retirement to investigate a string of grisly murders—inspired by the actual Gilgo Beach murders.

In his #1 New York Times bestseller Plum Island, Nelson DeMille introduced listeners to NYPD Homicide Detective John Corey, who we first met on the back porch of his uncle’s waterfront mansion on Long Island, recovering from wounds incurred in the line of duty.

Six novels later, The Maze finds Corey on the same porch, having survived new law enforcement roles and romantic relationships—wiser and more sarcastic than ever. Corey is restless and looking for action, so when his former lover Detective Beth Penrose appears with a job offer, Corey has to once again make some decisions about his career—and about reuniting with Beth.

Inspired by the real-life Gilgo Beach murders, The Maze takes us on a dangerous hunt for an apparent serial killer who has murdered nine—and maybe more—sex workers and hidden their bodies in the thick undergrowth on a lonely stretch of beach.

As Corey digs deeper into this case, he comes to suspect that the failure of the local police to solve this sensational mystery may not be a result of their incompetence—it may be something else. Something more sinister.

Featuring John Corey’s politically incorrect humor and brilliant, unorthodox investigative skills, The Maze “finally gives DeMille’s listeners the John Corey fix they’ve been craving,” along with the shocking plot twists that are the trademark of the bestselling author Nelson DeMille, “the master of smart, entertaining suspense” (Bookreporter).

OK…Let’s be honest…

My husband and I are both fans of Nelson DiMille and Scott Brick. We’ve listened to all of DiMille’s books and when we learned a new one was coming we immediately reserved it. Brick was still good. DiMille not so much. There were too many characters, too much dialogue and WAY to much profanity. If you like a story full of gangsters, prostitution, dishonest cops, and blackmail this one is for you. John Corey was lost in an implausible storyline. We forced ourselves to finish it but wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Disappointing

Big fan of John Corey but this was too repetitive. How many time does the author have to repeat through Corey who the suspects were, what crimes he is going to take them down for, etcetera. It almost seemed that Mr. DeMille was obligated to produce a certain word count but ran out of ideas so he just threw in random repeats. And the ending was not as spectacular as past Corey tales but he did come close to uncovering the real suspect in the Gilgo Beach murders...

DeMille fan…. But not this one

I love DeMille, but this story took way too ling to get to the meat, and then was only moderately enjoyable.

fair to ok.

I have always liked Scott Brick as a narrator.
the story did not need the vulgarity and fowl language

This felt a little disappointing or maybe I was expecting too much?

I am big Nelson Demille fan and an even bigger fan of the John Cory series.
This felt like the work of an upcoming writer and felt a little rushed.
The story isnt bad, nor is the narration its just that I expected alot more, and was left hanging when it all ended.
To me the best part of the book was the last 10mins which is quite unfortunate. Hopefully this is a one off from Nelson

Glad I got it, but

Wasn’t worth the wait, maybe the weakest of the Corey books. Great series, though, and I will always buy the next one, but maybe ready to shut this one down.

Not my favorite, but still good

Nelson Demille is absolutely one of my favorite authors. This story, as usual, did not disappoint. My only criticism is that the preoccupation with sex by Corey/Demille was downright adolescent. I'm used to Demille's books having some sex, but this was just over the top. I kept wondering if John Corey was a middle-aged man or a 16 year old boy. I still gave it five stars because everything else was great.

not my favorite, but no love lost for Mr. Demille

It was a good story, it just wasn't the story I expected. love John Corey and hope he lives on. Scott Brick is a master at narration especially Nelson Demilles novels.

Not his best but not his worst either.

Finally, too much John Corey? Saved in part by narrator and typically exciting finish even though a long wait.
