Rehashed and reskinned
As a beginning meditator and fan of Zen ideas, I was looking forward to hearing a different way to look at money and building wealth. What I got was a repeat of all the "save first, 4% rule, FIRE" approach to life that you can get in half the time from a podcast episode (and some of which are no longer in vogue), plus all the related pop psychology and common lines about the attention economy. If you know about savings rates and compounding interest, then there's not much for you here.
The "Zen" part was a pontificating preface about the nature of life, money, and how it flows. Key ideas: money is a tool and money is time and energy. Some invitations to write about your relationship with money, as well.
It's mentioned several times that a significant chunk of this book is a repeat from his previous book. Quotes are sprinkled throughout from known meditation masters, but it wasn't put to insightful application for my experience.
It struck me that this mish-mash of psychology, money emotions, affirmations, and FI was published in 2022. For the amount of unoriginal content, I figured this was published in 2018 at the latest.
With all that said, it *is* a comprehensive overview of the concepts if you haven't encountered those in your journey already. Performance is solid and the tone is inviting, so this is as good a place to start as any.
