Even better than book 1
It has really been fun coming back and Listening to these after all the Slough House books. You can see the glimpses of some of his later characters. That is not to say that these are solely unique and enjoyable..because they certainly are. The vocal performance is fantastic, doesn’t take you out of the story at all. Great all around listen!

Impressive Chops
I have enjoyed all of the author’s Slow Horses books.
With this VR-ish door into the world of a PI, he’s displayed his unerring grasp of character in a new universe. I came away with the notion that his reach may be infinite.

Great story, great characters and great narrator
It’s a great story this one. Intricately plotted, and Sarah and Zoe are back and ready for action if absolutely necessary. And of course action is necessary. It’s a slow-burn but we’ll worthwhile.

Creditworthy
This is a story that is listenable in spite of the reader. It is not brilliant as all the slough house stories are. There aren’t many laughs. The ending is fairly predictable. The beginning is slightly confusing. It is creditworthy but not nearly as good as Herron’s earlier effort with the same character, Zoe.

Not one of Herron's best
A disappointment - and that's coming from a huge fan of Herron's Slough House novels and novelas. Most annoying to me in the narration is the reader's singing the lyrics of old songs.

Good but slow
I love Mick Herron’s books. He is an excellent story teller. I really like the protagonist of this story, so I was disappointed it took so long to bring the story together. Mick Herron’s writing is so descriptive, which was the redeeming aspect of this story. My opinion was that it took a very circuitous route to get to the heart of the story. Many times I lost interest. However I am a fan of the story subjects and I plan to read the next in series.

Not one of his best
Too slow, too repetitive, and even for Mick Herron, too far-fetched a climax. And a very unsatisfactory cliffhanger at the end.
But, as always, entertaining.
