Acerca de esta escucha

For Teagan Frost, s--t just got real.

Teagan Frost is having a hard time keeping it together. Sure, she's got telekinetic powers - a skill that the government is all too happy to make use of, sending her on secret break-in missions that no ordinary human could carry out. But all she really wants to do is kick back, have a beer, and pretend she's normal for once.

But then a body turns up at the site of her last job - murdered in a way that only someone like Teagan could have pulled off. She's got 24 hours to clear her name - and it's not just her life at stake. If she can't unravel the conspiracy in time, her hometown of Los Angeles will be in the crosshairs of an underground battle that's on the brink of exploding....

Wildly fun and exciting!

The beginning of the story is a slow start, the main character is complex enough where I felt it was difficult to really get on board, but the ensemble characters keep you grounded to the story. Throughout Frosts journey her characters is only more solidified which was relieving, the twists and turns towards the middle of the story really is what got me addicted and clambering for the next installment. Solid fun, so excited for book 2!

a great title lead to a great book

i saw the other book in series "random sh!t flying through the air" in human at a bookstore as an editors choice and thought, well, how can't i? not being a reader, i audibles it and discovered that everything i assumed i knew about the super persons genre was a sack of lies. part umbrella academy, part captain marvel, and part x-men in feel, this book tackles the trauma of being different and special in a way that highlights how having a special ability is hard to rectify not using--even when using it may hurt people -- and how thin that line is. the characters are memorably understated and diverse in age, race, ability and sex. charisma, technology, psychology, martial skills, charm etc. the twists are twisty and the past is painful and vocal yet the story has a light fun feel, i'd recommend it to anyone who likes a film like guardians of the galaxy or a show like mandalorian - explorers if a world with special people with deep trauma that needs them.

Surprisingly Addictive

I picked up this book in a store to flick through while browsing. Never in my life had an opening line made me cackle out loud in public, but this genius author managed to pull that laugh from me like magic. Needless to say I went straight to the counter and purchased it. And then straight to audible for the audiobook to listen for when I can’t have the book with me.

The audio book for both this first instalment and the follow up book in this series are just beautifully produced and well narrated. I’m itching for the third on to have an audio production made to read along with the book! Highly recommend this series!

Keeps you hooked!

This book will keep you on your toes. At first, the characters seem flat, easily predictable. As the story progresses, their emotional depth catches you and wants you to get to know them. I would definitely recommend listening to the book a second time. The details you think are filler are so important.

The narration isn't my favorite. The main character doesn't portray the emotion the book deserves. Personal preferences I suppose.

I kept wanting it to be better

It was weird how frequently the author kept making specific street references. Like an episode of The Californians on SNL, characters argued about which routes were faster, times of day to avoid whichever highway or main road, and other characters knew what they were talking about right away. I couldn't really say why because I bet it's all accurate but all those specific flexes on roadway knowledge took away from the story.

What a great book!

This is not your Grandfather’s type of superhero! Teagan Frost has some real grit in her. The reason this book is so awesome is the characters are flawed which makes them realistic! Through their flaws you grow to love and root for them. Listen we’ve all read your traditional superhero comics, graphic novels, etc. You know how they are going to end. But with this book you just don’t know if everyone is going to make it in the end…and if they even deserve to. The narration is done in a manner where the characters are truly brought to life. Kudos to that team for sure. Mr. Ford definitely has a hit on his hands here. If they ever decide to make this into a show or movie they have a phenomenal template to follow with the audiobooks. Will be sure to recommend this to everyone I know that likes to have their ears thoroughly entertained!

Interesting but annoying

I like an interesting story with a new perspective, and that was delivered. I liked the story, it was cute and a nice.

But also annoying!
As not to spoil, I will list my points without context:
1. Violates Newtons third law on every second page
2. Violates Newtons second law a number of times
3. Author has not researched how a tazer works
3. Author has not researched how (fiberoptic) networks work
4. The secret organization has a world unique asset and gravely under utalizes it by only doing small jobs in one city.
5. The group dynamic is interesting, but no sane or competent person can have been involved in its creation or maintenance (if it was to actually exist). The red flags are everywhere.

In the end I finished the book and there were more good than bad, but there were several moments where I almost did a rage quit due to the annoying parts.

Juvenile

I didn’t get all the way through this one. The dialogue is very childishly written.

Why does everybody yell so much?

The thought of a young woman who moves inorganic substances with her mind, who is controlled by shadowy government figures and who goes on covert assignments is certainly compelling. But I thought that her use of this ability was very underdeveloped, and that fault could be hers or her handlers, but at any rate, it lacked a lot of imagination. And her 'team' wasn't believable in the slightest, nor were her interactions with them--no group that fractious could ever accomplish anything. So much yelling...And the romantic interest of the protagonist was, well, no more believable. He initially wanted a romantic dinner date with her before the dust from his last girlfriend had settled, and she was okay with that? Then after she ruins his apartment and, it looked like, his life (criminals don't get to work in the DA's office) he becomes her strongest ally in a fight against police, the government, and a rogue psychokinetic? And then in the resolution of the story--his reaction didn't make sense after all that had happened.

The female narrator tried her best but seemed to think that 'experiment' is pronounced ex-SPEAR-ament. I accept that this is a common mispronunciation. If only one of her characters said the word that way, fine. But every time anyone used it? Doesn't someone edit these audiobooks for ear-slams like that?

So, I probably won't be coming back for more of this series. But I wouldn't say I would never give the author another look down the road.
