Acerca de esta escucha

A missing child. A mother’s heartbreaking journey.

Germany, 1941: I stroke the blonde curl away from my daughter’s face, and my heart swells. I never imagined having children, and I never thought I’d love someone this much. Clara is the most precious thing to me. I whisper to her that I will do everything I can to keep her safe.

Before the war began, I had everything–an attentive husband, three adorable children, and the perfect house. But all that changed in an instant.

My beautiful Clara, with her blue eyes and porcelain features, started having fits. I haven’t been able to sleep properly since they started, because I know children with illnesses like hers are being stolen away in the night.

I refuse to give my little girl up. She should be with her family. I can’t bear the thought of her being taken from me.

My husband, influenced by his connections high up in the Nazi Party, says we have to tell the truth and follow the rules. I beg him to help me protect her, but I don’t trust him. He’s changed so much from the man I once loved.

Then, I see a man in uniform outside my door. They’ve come for her.

My child is wrenched from our home, and I sink to the floor as she’s carried away.

But I vow to find her...no matter what it takes.

Inspired by true stories, this is a heart-wrenching novel about a mother's fighting for the survival of their children in the depths of World War II. Fans of Orphan Train, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, and My Name Is Eva will be utterly gripped by this beautiful, tragic historical novel.

Friendship and Forgiveness

I liked the way the main characters are such good friends. Their differences of opinion move them apart but then acceptance and forgiveness brings them together

Great book

A wonderful novel. It would make a great movie! I had no idea Hitler had been indicted.

A different look

I've read many books of this genre and this one was nicely different. It showed a different side of the horror. Also it was a long incredible journey of how it all came to be. Highly recommend.

Excellent Storyline!

This has got to be one of the best fictional stories based on true events that I have ever read. The author did a excellent job of weaving historical fact through the story. The narrator captured the high and lows beautifully with every inflection of her voice. I found myself wanting to strangle Minky's weak social climber of a husband. My blood ran cold whenever the dreadful Goebbels entered the story. Both Laila and Minky are now my favorite characters. Both women represented a handful of strong, German women who stood up for what was right. I kept rooting for Minky, who I identifed with so much. If I continue, I will give too much away. If you are reading my review, do yourself a favor and purchase this book. You won't regret it. I have only read a few novels that have brought tears to my eyes at various turning points. This is one of them.

Repetitive

This could’ve been a very good story however, the narration was completely messed up and many chapters would repeat themselves, so that was really frustrating. Additionally, I’m halfway through the book and we haven’t even gotten to the kid getting taken anywhere or really any discussion about the child so I think the title is very deceiving, see if you can find this book somewhere else for free I wouldn’t waste a credit on it
