What made the experience of listening to The Forgotten Man the most enjoyable?

In a world where Face-to-Face Friendships is all but lost, the human connection between Cole and Pike makes the adventure believeable. Knowing someone has Cole's back kept me reading

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pike. When I grow up, I want to be like him or know someone like him.

What does James Daniels bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Feeling. Audible listening is all about the "Reader". Daniels does a great job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, many days I would sit in my truck in my drive-way after getting home, just listening.

My first Cole/ Pike book was "Taken". Now I'm Hooked on series. Thanx, Robert

Great character development

In this book, Crais introduces and skillfully develop some new and interesting characters and also develops some of Elvis Cole's very interesting backstory. With L.A. Requiem, Crais really ramped up his storytelling, and that high level continues into this book.

Not as compelling as previous books in series

This was a decent read, but I didn’t find it as compelling as previous books in the series

all of R Crais books read by James Daniels are a must listen.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Crais brings you along with each book. they can stand alone, but you will enjoy them much better if you read in order. This order I can not tell you, but they are not too be missed when read by J. Daniels

Which character – as performed by James Daniels – was your favorite?

Elvis and Pike (do not miss the Watchman, Pikes story, Sexy from get go) It was a great shame that R Crais thought he could compete with j. Daniels reading style in the Sentry. If Crais were to re record that book with J Daniels and NOT Luke Daniels, he would get a large winner and even bigger sales as I would re buy with James reading it

I had all of the elvis books on cassette, and will be buying only the J. Daniels recordings from audible. These all were worth a re listen and my time.

Awful narration

I dont know why the narration has so many good reviews, I dont consider whispering and running your words together to be a great performance. Could not get past the first 3 chapters

Who Is That Man?

Overall this book (Book 10 in the series) is well done. The story fades a bit now and again so that is why it earned a 4 rather than a 5. The ending has a nice twist to keep you guessing. James Daniels is a very good narrator making listening very enjoyable and engaging. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys mysteries and particularly if you are an Elvis Cole/Joe Pike fan. If not, you will likely become one.

What makes these books good?

I have listened 10 of these in order. I’ll be going to to the end. Some reviews aren’t so great and yes, the plots aren’t perfect, the action has lulls, and the narration is hit and miss. This is, however, to miss the point.
These books shine because of three things. First, the dialogue is sharp as hell, and brings out interesting and surprising things in both major and minor characters. The personalities just shine.
Second, the thoughts and musings of our friend Elvis Cole are endlessly entertaining, and comforting too, as he battles personal demons that a reader can relate to.
Finally, the friendship between Cole and Pike is a blast, and what they get done is pure escapist fantasy.
All of this makes for some really fun reading or listening time. Thumbs up.
