Acerca de esta escucha
Special agent James Cronley Jr. finds that fighting both ex-Nazis and the Soviet NKGB can lead to strange bedfellows in the dramatic new Clandestine Operations novel about the birth of the CIA and the Cold War.
A month ago, Cronley managed to capture two notorious Nazi war criminals, but not without leaving some dead bodies and outraged Austrian police in his wake. He's been lying low ever since, but that little vacation is about to end. Somebody - Odessa, the NKGB, the Hungarian Secret Police? - has broken the criminals out of jail, and he must track them down again.
But there's more to it than that. Evidence has surfaced that in the war's last gasps, Heinrich Himmler had stashed away a fortune to build a secret religion, dedicated both to Himmler and to creating the Fourth Reich. That money is still out there in the hands of Odessa, and that infamous organization seems to have acquired a surprising - and troubling - ally.
Cronley is fast finding out that the phrase "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" can mean a lot of different things, and that it is not always clear which people he can trust and which are out to kill him.

June, 1941. Determined that the United States will be prepared for war, Franklin D. Roosevelt and "Wild Bill" Donovan orchestrate the most complex espionage organization in history, the Office of Strategic Services. Young and daring, the OSS assemble under a thin camouflage of diplomacy and then disperse throughout the world to conduct their operations. And no operation is more critical than the one being conducted by hotshot pilot Richard Canidy and his half-German friend Eric Fulmar: to secure the rare ore that will power a top-secret weapon....

Two armed men board a 727 that has been all but forgotten at an airfield in Angola. Hijacking the jet, they then slit the throat of the lone crew and fly to parts unknown. The consternation is immediate, as the CIA, FBI, and other agencies race to find out what happened, in the process elbowing one another in the sides a little too vigorously. Fed up, the president of the United States turns to an outside investigator to determine the truth.

A behind-the-scenes operator at the CIA, Wallace was integral to the agency's secret war against China's national intelligence service, which infiltrates government offices, major businesses, and systems crucial to our security. Wallace had severely damaged China's Washington spy ring with a devastating ruse, a so-called "black swan", in which a deep-undercover female agent targeted and destroyed a key Chinese official. Now, Wallace's mysterious death suggests that the CIA itself has been compromised and that China has someone inside the agency.

A terrorist bomb explodes during a South Korean celebration of the anniversary of the election of its first president. Alarms are raised in Washington. No one is claiming responsibility. The first suspect is North Korea. Could it be making a power play against South Korea and unification? If so, how will the U.S. respond? Paul Hood, Director of the Op-Center, must answer these questions. The Op-Center, a largely autonomous new agency which takes on the government's toughest security problems, is only six months old, and has never been given a foreign crisis until now.

Hailed as the finest combat aviation novel to emerge from the Vietnam War, Flight of the Intruder spent 28 weeks on the New York Times hardcover best-seller list and became one of the top-20 best-selling first novels of all time. An instant classic, the book was translated into more than 20 languages and made into a major motion picture. Father Kevin Thrall, chaplain to an inner-city parochial school in Washington, D.C., leads a quiet and rewarding life. But to the Vatican, Thrall's past of elite military combat is uniquely suited for a dangerous mission - one directly tied to the mysterious prophecy revealed by the Blessed Virgin to three Portuguese shepherd children. The three Secrets of Fatima were closely held by the Vatican for decades, but many believe that the Vatican withheld important - and possibly dangerous - parts of the Third Secret.

A Great End to the Series
The final Clandestine Operations novel sees our heroes, led by Jim Cronley, struggling to recapture the Nazi generals who escaped between books 4 and 5 and put the nails in the coffin of the religion the Nazis were creating to inspire the thousand-year Reich. That last is a major theme of the novels. The Nazis were defeated, but they haven't given up their dream of an empire that will last a thousand years and Cronley and his team figure out that they have two separate treasures, each worth hundreds of millions of dollars, with which to fund their millennial ambushes. The first is in the Vatican Bank and they have to figure out how to get the Vatican to seal the Nazis off from it. The second they believe is hidden somewhere in the giant castle complex that was to become the sort of St. Peter's Basilica of the Nazis. It's an exciting story, which is weakened early on by yet another woman throwing herself at Cronley's feet. Then it's further marred when it becomes apparent that that woman's only reason for existing is to give the reader another reason to hate the Nazis that Cronley and company are trying to track down. But removing that storyline from the equation, this is a great end to a really enjoyable series.

Thank God Scott Brick is back
The first three books of this series were marred by the narrator. His voices were at odds with those of previous narrators in the Honor Bound series, his German pronunciation was inconsistent, and his pronunciation of SIGABA drove me crazy.
Strangely, Brick pronounced SIGABA like Sendese in this book, not like he did in Honor Bound. I attribute this to Brick actually listening to previous books in this series, something not many narrators do.
While this series is not as good, in my opinion, as Honor Bound, and at times gets tedious, I find that I appreciated it more on this, my third time through. The characters are not as engaging, Jimmy Cronley is no Cletus Frade. The plots are more convoluted and not as satisfying.

Is this the end??
So as usual W.E.B Griffin tells a great story and continued the Clandestine Operations series as he always does. Great story good accurate (for fictional stories)detail and the characters are your friends before the books over. BUT!!!! The ending???? Could this be the last C.O in the series??? Or could it go on???
