Acerca de esta escucha

Some are born to power. Some seize it. And some have the wisdom never to wield it.

The Red Knight has stood against soldiers, armies, and the might of an empire without flinching. He's fought on real and magical battlefields alike, and now he's facing one of the greatest challenges yet. A tournament.

A joyous spring event, the flower of the nobility will ride against each other for royal favor and acclaim. It's a political contest - one that the Red Knight has the skill to win. But the stakes may be higher than he thinks. The court of Alba has been infiltrated by a dangerous faction of warlike knights, led by the greatest knight in the world: Jean de Vrailly - and the prize he's fighting for isn't royal favor but the throne of Alba itself....

This is the third book in the Traitor Son Cycle, following The Red Knight and The Fell Sword.

best book in the series

very well written conclusion to the trilogy... most lose ends tied up but with enough to leave the reader wanting more from the author

Excellent read

Exceptional book, author continues to improve, we finally start to see all the threads coming together. Can't wait for the next book!

The narrator also does a good job.

Best one yet :D

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dread Wyrm to be better than the print version?

I like audio better, via the narrations. But that's just me, I'm more audio then visual.

What did you like best about this story?

The layers of court and politic's, the underdog hero's, which made this a book I felt many different things in hearing. Anger, joy, triumph.

What about Neil Dickson’s performance did you like?

I liked Matthew Wolf more, he had a religious inflection that appealed too me, though both are very similar and do a exceptional work in reading these books, one radiates the pious culture of the times, the other seems to reflect it's lack.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Got me torqued, but in a good way. Villains are masterful in pushing all the right buttons. The noble characters I love.

Any additional comments?

Captivating book. One of the best I've had the pleasure to listen too. Maybe the best. Worth the coin to get.

Good book, new reader is just bad

From bad voice choices, to comical mispronunciations of character/place names and even normal words like Jarl, this reader is a major step down from the previous one.

great book, had to get used to different reader

after having one narrator for two books, it took me an hour or two to get used to the new one. once that happened, I thoroughly enjoyed the book again

Very enjoyable please bring back old reader

The story overall was excellent. However the new readers pronunciations of some things were distracting particularly in the dialog of the Fairy Knight and some of the french terms. Otherwise it was excellent

Another series I will stop listening to.

Where does The Dread Wyrm rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Story is still really good. Carries well from the previous.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite is Bad Tom. My son listened in the truck with me and thought we were a lot alike.

Would you be willing to try another one of Neil Dickson’s performances?

NOT IN A MILLION YEARS! I give new narrators 1 chance because I know things can happen (look at the Dark Tower series) beyond control, if they show that they cared so little as to not even listen to the previous narrators work on the story then they are not worth my time and I am done with the non print version of that series. Knowing the correct pronunciation of names and towns is an ABSOLUTE MUST! You also need to at least try to keep the characters as close to the originals as possible. These characters in a series have become our family and friends, when they talk you shouldn't need to be told who it is that said something BECAUSE YOU ALREADY KNOW THEM!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

WITHOUT NEIL DICKSON!

Any additional comments?

It is becoming more and ore that these audio book companies care not at all. Keep the original author or at least make the new one listen to the previous books so they have a clue!

I loved it

Okay so the narrator isn't as good. but he's really not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I also loved every second of this story so that probably helped. I'm pretty sure there were some editing errors again but it's hard to tell with so many characters and so many of them have multiple names and titles. all in all I had a great time.

Gabriel: Evil Pirate. Bad Tom: almost Irish Pirate

The story is great. Lets get that out of the way. The narrator is.... well... as many others put it, a pirate. I think it is well established that a narrator should utilize the same tone with minor dramatic variations while narrating and creatively use accents to distinguish characters. I have tried and failed 3 times to get through this book, and I LOVE the series.

The narrator instead speaks consistently with a scheming, dramatic, evil tone throughout, even when describing something as trivial as a woman gathering milk. Gabriel went from this non-nonchalant arrogant, but understandable character to some evil sounding mastermind. I would put his voice on par with Thorne's in the first books. Bad Tom... oh God. The narrator tries desperately to achieve an Irish accent. Although the first books didn't utilize this accent for this character, the book does read that way. The narrator does a piss poor job. Sauce, the witty, seemingly beautiful warrior princess suddenly is imparted with the kind of voice you would expect from a "tavern wench," or at least, this is my experience.

I just simply cannot do it, and it is a shame I cannot go further. Yes, yes, I know I could very easily read the books, but I'm here like the rest of you are . . . so I don't have to.

I'm going to rinse my palate with some Roy Dotrice.
