Opposites Attract

A modern day fairytale with a predictable happy ending one would come to expect - making for a great feel good romance. Characters were very different in personalities making the attraction between them all the more entertaining. Story involves an English duke with a less than stellar reputation for being a playboy and an American woman who poses as his newest love interest, A business association is developed for the purpose of providing a more positive public image for the duke, while the American is paid well for her part in the publicity stunt. Initially, the relationship is purely business however, as time passes a romantic love interest developes.

Not for me

Something about the voices really irked me. The heroine had a Fran Drescher sound and honestly she annoyed me so much I had to turn it off. I gave it three tries but just no. The Duke wasn't much better. And then there was the heroine's language. The Duke calls her vulgar and it's correct. I got tired of hearing the words crap and fr*gging so many times. So many. I could have overlooked that I guess but she was such a whiny brat I couldn't find her relatable. I gave up. Might be better in digital or for someone else, but I just couldn't enjoy it.

Hilarious

Loved it the connection and chemistry of these characters was so fun and flirty great book can't wait to listen to the next book in series!

A Cinderella Story

This was a truly enjoyable story that kept me engaged in one sitting. The characters quirks will keep you laughing and you will want to read the second book to find out more. Enjoy!

Wonderful Story!

This was my first Tessa Bowen's book, and won't be the last! I love this modern Cinderella story! The story is beautifully written. The Duke (Trevor) and Isabelle (Izzy) are both great characters. They are total opposites, but they share a strong chemistry. Izzy is a strong, sassy and feisty woman. Trevor was a manwhore before Izzy, and it's really delightful to see him fall in love with Izzy. The little Charlotte is also a cute character. The storyline is filled with hilarious scenes, sexy and steamy scenes, and romantic scenes. I love the ending! Now, I can't wait for the next book in the Series! Virginia Ferguson has done an amazing job with the narration. I love her voice. I really enjoyed my listening and totally recommend this audiobook. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Interesting Listen

Izzy is being paid to pretend to be the Dukes bride. He is rude to her because he does not want this. They end up sleeping together and Izzy does not to be a part of his many women and runs away. The Duke realizes that he needs her. When he finds her he must convince her that he is now serious about her.

Good Love Story

Izzy, a common girl, faints around an English Nobleman Trevor, known last the Devil Duke, for his playboy ways...
The public and the media love Izzy, so she's approached by Trevor's handlers to marry Trevor to help change his reputation.. Of course she's offered a handsome sum for this.
Izzy agrees, but really, she's a fish out of water.
Trevor is trying to change his reputation, and has a daughter from a previous marriage. Izzy and Charlotte (daughter), hit it off and Trevor falls in love.

The story was cute, the narration was good, but I found the narration of Izzy grating (almost a Valley Girl persona), and I kept thinking of Prince Charles when I heard Trevor. but overall, I did like the story

Devilishly Charming Fun

Anything can happen when you need to polish up your royal image and you make a deal with the least likely woman to help you. She is everything he's not and yet just what he needs. The relationship banter is perfect. Virginia Ferguson ( a new to me narrator ) has excellent comedic timing and does a great job being stodgy, proper, and entitled and then a whimsical free spirit who speaks her mind. I really LOVED ♥♥♥♥♥ this story.

Steamy

I really enjoyed this book. This was the first time I had listened to a romance novel and I was pleasantly surprised. The story reminded me of My Fair Lady in that a commoner is taken in by the aristocracy and made over to become a Duchess. I really enjoyed the characters though there were times when Izzy’s voice was a bit much. As the book went on I feel like her voice was toned down a bit and it was much more pleasant to listen to. The only negative was that there were a few times that I would have liked Izzy to stick up for herself a bit earlier than she did, but at least she did stick up for herself.

While the story itself is one that is often told, (rich playboy meets common girl, falls in love, etc.) this version felt fresh and new and also added the element of the playboy having a young daughter. It added additional complexity to the story and more opportunities for humor and character development and discovery. It was a great story and one that I will likely listen to again. It is also the first in a series and I have already started on the next one!

The Devil Duke is a Devil Dont!

Narrator: Her female voice was awful, I understand that the heroine is in her 20's but the narrator makes her sound like a tween. It throws off the mood of the entire book. Her male voice was actually enjoyable.

Book: I probably would have enjoyed the book more if I would have read it, not listened to it. My biggest complaint is the main character repeatedly calling her love interest a "weirdo pervert". The phrase was used at least a dozen times. It was very off putting. The premise of the story had the potential for a great read: A wealthy divorced dad needs to fix his playboy image; he arranges to wed a wholesome common girl. This book falls short of really presenting this premise in an interesting way.
The overall tone of the story was very juvenile, I didn't find anything about the story romantic or understand how the "love" even came to be.
