Much Needed !

I adored this book in every way. The characters and story were so deeply rooted in humanity, it was easy to believably slip into the world Wilson had created. Warmth, grit, tragedy, and love radiated from every page. I needed this story exactly when it came into my life, I needed it 10 years ago, and I foresee it staying a staple/ re-read in my collection for the next several decades. This book stands alone as one of the— if not THE— greatest western and wlw stories out there. I would highly recommend.

Beautiful story

Wow. I’m not sure what I expected but this book took me much further than I thought it would. The first chapters were difficult to listen to, as the beginning of the story is very violent and painful but it has to be for Jesse to become who she is. Nothing is gratuitous. I’m glad I kept going. Also, the narrator’s voices for the various characters were really great.

Equally as good as the the book!

Let me start by saying I loved the narration of this book by Jennifer Nicole Stang. I felt she brought each individual characters to life. Because of this, i was able to easily listen and get lost into the story. It never once felt like I was being read to...
Now as for the story itself, I’ve read all 3 books in this trilogy. Having these same characters come to life in audiobook was just as good. Each characters was depicted just as I imagined from when I read the books. Now I don’t want to give anything away from this book, but I will put a disclaimer... There our some ruff scenes (rape,murder) in the beginning of this book. I believe it was necessary for this story and it’s understanding of why the main characters became who she is. But for some it may trigger. Please don’t let that deter you from listening to this book!
For those of you who’ve read the books, you won’t be disappointed. 5⭐️ I definitely recommend giving this one a listen.

Great story, characters, performance....very moving and carried me along effortlessly. The narration was excellent.

I enjoyed this book when I first read it. Now, it's one of my absolute favorites. the narrator did a fabulous job adding even more depth to Jesse and Abby. Great job to everyone involved in the making of this!

So Good

This is a wonderful book! And so far as I’ve discovered, one of the better books included in the queer genre.

I was completely enthralled by the story. Could not put it down.

Words can't express how much I enjoyed this book!

I typically don't read historical fiction, but I gave it a try because of the reviews. I was so surprised at how much I loved this book. It was very well written and a much needed breath of fresh air compared to my usual reading/listening. Well done!

Captivating

Beautiful story with well developed characters. I felt like I knew and understood their concerns and challenges. I felt myself rooting for the mains. This story would be a great movie!! Well worth tour time and investment.

Wow!

Wow! I really loved this book!

As much as I cringed with the assault on the family, near the beginning, and wish it had less detail, it could have been a lot worse. And unlike certain authors, it wasn’t done for entertainment value.

The developing relationship between the two main characters, and how they resolve their “I’ve never considered being attracted to a woman before,” both in different ways, was realistic.

The mother-figure/child relationship with Frieda and Jessica was neat to read about, as well.
