Just gritty enough

Read The Life We Bury & liked Esken’s style. This is also a solid crime drama. He moves skillfully between the present & the near-present. I was not expecting the ending, but appreciated the rationale. My one quibble is that the Ordeal in the Snow scene went on a bit long.

intense

Assuming that Max Rupert will continue to be a series written by the author, this will be the tale of Max avenging the death of his wife. You will want to listen to it as part of the whole series.

(5 years later the author writes a sequel in 'Forsaken County'.

predictable story and dialog

I had to return this before I got too far. predicicable storyline, made this totally in interesting. I had higher hopes from this author

Followed the story but not caught up

Detective story with little mystery. Some plot turns but rather straight forward. Still enjoyed it OK.

Best one I’ve listened to in the series yet

I have apparently been listening out of order, but it doesn’t matter, they all seem to be great. This one is my favorite so far. It’s slightly different but still the same idk how to explain it

Great Drama!

RC Bray nails the story telling in this twisty drama! I didn’t see the end coming the way it did! The dialog about justice and vengeance was very thought provoking. This was a great listening experience.

Story is dark.

This is another hard book regarding the life of Max. The story is incredible! The narrator is perfect. This book is one of the best I have heard in a very long time.

New author to me / love the suspense

I was familiar with Mac from
Previous books. He did not disappoint in this mystery.
