The Debt (John & Mattie
This is another great book from C.J. Petit. I have found that these books are easy to follow and holds your interest. In this book Mattie a school teacher gets kidnapped. John Clark a Rancher sets out to rescue her. He does. He helps her find her outlawed father. One of the outlaw gang is using her to make her father turn over leadership. John and Mattie hunting the gang is as good as any bounty hunting book I've listened to. John and Mattie gets closer as the hunt goes along. I don't want to spoil anything about the hunt so I'll just say I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Michael Alan White does an excellent job narrating this book. Please do not listen to this CJ Petit story as your first. It is the worst by far.
There is a lot of difference between a storyteller and a great writer. CJ Pettit is certainly former. In all books save this one, he presents us with protagonists that l have found to be characters that I care about. As they say in the movie business, the people created in Mr. Petit’s stories have a great deal of “Rooting Interest”. And despite my best efforts, I could never care about the lead characters in this story.
With that said, I look forward to the next story he presents as an audiobook.
