Acerca de esta escucha

When the world ended some people believed that it was the fault of a failed space probe, others - an act of vengeance from an angry God. No one knew the reasons why but across the globe, millions of the recently deceased rose from the dead, possessed with one singular goal: To eat the flesh of the living. Over the course of a few short hours the world was lost.

In the Northern California town of Red Bluff, a Sheriff struggles to grasp this strange and hellish turn of events that have ravaged his small town and maintain order as it all falls apart.

Two brothers struggle to make sense of this new world, traveling through the putrid remains of their beloved town - torn between survival and the love their mother. The world has ended and soon they will learn that all they need to survive is each other.

Nothing particularly unique, decent story. Jumps around quite a bit but was entertaining. Did notice some errors in narration and in the writing but nothing overly distracting. Wasn't thrilled with the end it felt undone, like it was missing something.

I thought it was a fair zombie book due to the characters; it has guts, gore and drama. My favorite characters were the brothers Jake and Russell but book left me wondering what happened to them. Recommend to anyone who loves zombies. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

OK Zombie Book

Would you consider the audio edition of Summer of 68 to be better than the print version?

I don't know I've only listened to the audible version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The sherrif, because he is a man over whelmed by the situation - wanting to do right but confused by his friendships.

What about Rick Gregory’s performance did you like?

A good solid performance, kept my interest and brought the book to life.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this book. And will be reading more from this author and narrator.

A Good read

This book is hard to review because while there are parts I liked, there were even more that I felt completely "Meh" about. I'm not too sure what to say because I felt like there was a lot left to be desired with the plot and it was, for the most part, completely forgettable. I have no idea how the Zombies came to be, I can't tell you who or how many characters there were and I couldn't care less what happened to them.... but I also kinda enjoyed it, which is weird!

I liked the brothers the most and actually became invested in their story. I was rooting for them the whole way through and when it ended the way it ended, well lets just say that if it was a proper book, I would have flung it across the room!!! Those poor boys. They were the shining beacon in the book!!

Anyway, overall, I'm still torn about how I truly felt about this. I suppose OK is all I can say. It brought nothing new to the table and was a little slow at times, but I'm still glad I listened to it.

This is my first time listening to Rick Gregory and I have to say that he did good! He has a clear voice and read the essence of the story really well. He understood where inflection was important and brought the story alive. I think the only negative thing I can say is that he didn't differentiate the characters enough to clearly tell who was talking, but that is something that comes with experience!! Looking forward to listening to this narrator again.

I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Not bad, but not great either.

Not quite the brothers from the show Supernatural, but this is quite good. Worth listening to. A very unique story!

What made the experience of listening to Summer of 68 the most enjoyable?

I enjoy this narrator's work, listen to most of his stuff. He does a good job--never makes it about him, just tells the story.

What other book might you compare Summer of 68 to and why?

Very much in the same vein as the popular zombie stuff of today

What about Rick Gregory’s performance did you like?

He's good to listen to, pleasant sounding narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The first scene was a great hook.

Ok, so this was a perfectly good zombie story, and I would definitely listen to this author's books again. The timing was good, the storytelling was good, and the characters were likable and believable. My only hangup was the vocabulary. I feel like the author misused several words, and it drove my nerd-brain a little crazy. One example is the word phlegmatically. As someone who actually knows the difference between phlegmatic and phlegmy, it stopped me in my tracks, caused me to disassociate for a few seconds, and interrupted my enjoyment of the story. The narrator did a great job, and it was a great story, but I dropped a star for misused words.

Great zombie story

Any additional comments?

"Blood flailing from his throat" and "dribbling to the dirt like curdled milk" are two instances of the lurid prose and cliches that abound in this book. Odd phrasing and outright errors. For instance after being beat on the head by a zombie, "Ruth's face was indistinguishable from the kind old lady she once was", indistinguishable means no different. Hardly likely after being beat in the with a paperweight. The book's plot line seems to jump around and odd analogies and filler words don't help. This book seriously needs an editor and a rewrite.
The narrator struggles a bit and has an uneven cadence and often ends in the middle of a sentence and has to regroup to finish it. It could be the writing that makes the narration flow challenging.

An Overwrought Apocalypse

A classic zombie tale told in the setting of a rural town in 1968. The majority of the tale plays out from the view of two young brothersZ the author captures not only the classic elements of a great zombie town but also delivers on the view of the zombie apocalypse from the view of rural America and some of its youngest inhabitants. Enjoy this classic tale of horror. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
