Eat to beat disease made me to embrace the fact that to understand the health benefits of foods, we must first understand the definition of health. For most people, health is the absence of disease. But it's much more than that. In fact, the definition of health requires a major update. What is clear is that our health is an active state, protected by a series of extraordinary defense systems in the body that are activated in all cylinders, from birth to the last day of life, allowing our cells and organs to function without problems.
These health defense systems are wired into our bodies to protect us. Some are so powerful that they can even reverse diseases such as cancer. And even though they function as separate defense systems, they also support and interact. These defense systems are the common denominators of health. By re calibrating our approach to disease prevention and focusing on these common denominators, we can take a unified approach to intercept diseases before they occur. It can be as powerful as finding common denominators for treating diseases, as we did two decades ago. Each of the systems is influenced by the diet. When you know what to eat to support each health promotion action, you know how to use your diet to stay healthy and conquer the disease. This is a book you must listen to especially for those that is looking forward to living a healthy lifestyle.

Take action
it is always good to make positive food choices because it will help reinforce your health defenses, but you will sometimes be in a situation where the right choices are neither easy nor possible. That's why regularly making good decisions can help balance the effects of unhealthy choices that we all make occasionally and this brings us to the 5 × 5 × 5 framework.
This 5 x 5 x 5 frame is not a plan to lose weight, a physical diet or a plan of mental clarity. It's not a meal-by-meal, or a day-by-day plan that tells you how to live your life strictly. It's much better.
The 5 × 5 × 5 is a framework, not a prescription, it fits any diets you currently follow, be it Paleo, Whole30, Ornish, low-carb, gluten-free, allergen-free, plants-based or ketogenic, and it's easy to adopt if you do not follow a plan at all.
The 5 × 5 × 5 framework is flexible and requires little implementation effort, which facilitates compliance. And it's not restrictive. It's about adding beneficial foods to your diet, without excluding foods.
