Acerca de esta escucha
Please note: This is a summary and analysis of the book and not the original book.
In his thought-provoking audiobook, Loonshots, physicist, and entrepreneur Safi Bahcall explains how the world we see around us is the culmination of crazy ideas by individuals who refused to accept the status quo and boldly chased after a greater vision.
ZIP Reads Summary includes:
- Synopsis of the original book
- Key takeaways from each chapter
- Specific examples of successful (and unsuccessful) loonshots
- Analysis of why certain loonshots fail while others succeed
- Editorial review

About the original book:
Loonshots is an intriguing blend of world history, science, technology, and business. Safi Bahcall takes his readers on a roller-coaster ride that reveals the power of nurturing crazy ideas and embracing audacious projects. Though we often feel comfortable maintaining the status quo, especially in a group setting, sometimes we must provide opportunities for daring ideas to flow. The truth is that the world as we know it today would not be what it is without loonshots. Bahcall shows us how we can create the right environment for nurturing and launching the kind of loonshots that save lives and change the world.

Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

Built To Last, the defining management study of the 90s, showed how great companies triumph over time and how long-term sustained performance can be engineered into the DNA of an enterprise from the very beginning. But what about companies that are not born with great DNA? How can good companies, mediocre companies, even bad companies achieve enduring greatness?

To make these big moves happen for your company, you’re going to have to break through inertia, gamesmanship, and risk aversion. You’re going to have to mitigate human biases and manage group dynamics. Eight practical shifts can help you do this, and unlock bigger, bolder, better strategies. This is not another by-the-book approach to strategy. It’s not another trudge through frameworks or small-scale case studies promising a secret formula for success. It’s an irreverent, fact-driven, and humorous take on the real world of strategic decision making.

Imagine what Atari might have achieved if Steve Jobs had stayed there to develop the first massmarket personal computer. Or what Steve Case might have done for PepsiCo if he hadn't left for a gaming start-up that eventually became AOL. What if Salomon Brothers had kept Michael Bloomberg, or Bear Stearns had exploited the inventive ideas of Stephen Ross? Scores of top-tier entrepreneurs worked for established corporations before they struck out on their own and became self-made billionaires.
