Up to 40% of people consider themselves shy. You might say you're introverted or awkward, or that you're fine around friends but just can't speak up in a meeting or at a party. Maybe you're usually confident but have recently moved or started a new job, only to feel isolated and unsure. If you get nervous in social situations - meeting your partner's friends, public speaking, standing awkwardly in the elevator with your boss - you've probably been told, "Just be yourself!" But that's easier said than done - especially if you're prone to social anxiety.

While mental health is complex, our culture has made anxiety into something it’s not. For the majority of people who face anxiety, the truth is simpler than we think: Anxiety is an alarm. It’s a signal — nothing more and nothing less. Anxiety is simply our body’s way of telling us something is wrong. If we stop and listen, we can calm the alarm and move forward into healing and hope.

So pleased with this.
I’m more than pleased that I came to know this book. I’m aware of the pain of the shyness in a very deep way. It’s just one morning I woke up and thought I don’t want to be stuck like this forever. And Mike’s wonderful piece is slowly teaching me how heal. It felt wonderful I can share this with an author.

Wonderful tips
The best advice was to be proactive, and instead of sitting in a corner alone, to decide to speak to three people. And to come prepared with some open-ended questions. This way, you're not waiting for people to approach you. This tip alone was worth the time. The author gave many other good tips, both physical and psychological, to combat anxiety.
