A haunting crime novel of two sisters - one has vanished, the other is behind bars....
Snow Delaney was born a generation and a world away from her sister, Agnes.
Until recently, neither even knew of the other's existence. They came together only for the reading of their father's will - when Snow discovered, to her horror, that she was not the sole beneficiary of his large estate.
Now Snow is in prison and Agnes is missing, disappeared in the eerie red dust that blanketed Sydney from dawn on September 23, 2009.
With no other family left, Snow turns to crime journalist Jack Fawcett, protesting her innocence in a series of defiant letters from prison. Has she been unfairly judged? Or will Jack's own research reveal a story even more shocking than the one Snow wants to tell?

It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

Historia
Caroline Overington's stunning fiction debut is a multi-voiced novel centred around a child's death and its terrible repercussions. In 1982 Victorian police were called to a home on a housing estate an hour west of Melbourne. There, they found a five-year-old boy lying still and silent on the carpet. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but the child, Jacob, died the next day. The story made the headlines, and hundreds attended the funeral. Few people were surprised when the boy's mother and her boyfriend went to prison for the crime.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola’s third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede’s practicality is the sisters’ saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her “missing” boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit. Korede has long been in love with a kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where she works.

In this compulsively listenable tale of secrets, lies, and deception, Gilly Macmillan explores the darkest impulses and desires of the human heart. Diabolically clever, The Nanny reminds us that sometimes the truth hurts so much you’d rather hear the lie.

Historia
It was summer in the mountains when five small children vanished from their nursery school picnic. The heat was stifling that day, the tinkle of an ice-cream van in the air.... Three-and-a-half years later, in the dead of winter, the children are returned to their families...one by one. All except for Ivy - the granddaughter of Homicide Detective Kate Wakeland. The other four children say Ivy is dead.

Historia
Shortly after 9.30 in the morning, a young man walks into Surf City, Bondi’s newest shopping complex. He’s wearing a dark grey hoodie - and a bomb around his neck. Just a few minutes later, he is locked in a shop on the upper floor. And trapped with him are four innocent bystanders. For police chaplain Paul Doherty, called to the scene by Senior Sergeant Boehm, it’s a story that will end as tragically as it began. For this is clearly no ordinary siege. The boy, known as Ali Khan, seems as frightened as his hostages and has yet to utter a single word.

She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. Wow!
What a story!! Snow’s sister, Agnes, goes missing without a trace. Snow is suspected of her being “missing”. Snow is in prison serving time for a totally different crime. A journalist is trying to get to the bottom of what happened to snow sister‘s so the journalist and snow right back-and-forth and she explains everything to him. You go from thinking she’s innocent to thinking she’s guilty and on and on. What I really like the best about this book is a lot of the books that I’ve been reading lately I describe them as “as If”. This has a very very real ending not all tied neatly in a pretty little bow. Great read!

Not my kind of crime story SPOILER POSSIBLE
I’m apologizing in advance for writing this review that includes a necessary spoiler.
I do not like criminal stories that are cold cases. I realize they are actually more true to life than the kind that wrap up the case—in real life we often must let go and not know what happened to somebody, or who committed the crime, and how and why they did what they did. That’s what keeps me engaged in the plot, I like knowing how things are done and by whom. I was so disappointed that this well written story, with awesome character development, left us to wonder who killed Agnes, and how.
I listened to this book in its entirety. The narrator was very good, bringing characters to life, and introducing me to some Aussie slang.
Still one of my favorite authors!

Not what I was expecting
This was a rollercoaster. It took me a few chapters to get sucked into the storyline. I think the contrast between the (what I found to be) the mundane POV and actions during the journalist’s journey in the story and then the letters from Snow was the hard part for me. I understand the reason behind the flip flopping and showing the different perspectives, but I think I’d also have been perfectly happy if the whole book was just Snow’s letters piecing together the whole thing. The plot point of Snow’s incarceration was intense. While she was explaining her actions and decisions, I kept thinking “that would almost make sense if this was set several decades ago” and the author did a good job presenting Snow in a way that maybe she truly did think she was making the best of a bad situation while also acknowledging that she had little empathy (whether it was trained out of her or she was just that way), which I really liked about that character.

Easy read
The narration was good. The tone and quality made the listening experience enjoyable. I REALLY appreciated that there was no profanity so I made a note of this author in order to read other books. For such an intriguing storyline, the ending was a bit of a letdown. Maybe my personal style is for all questions to be answered. I may try another to see if it was just this book or not.
