Brutal story

The investigative team gave us a window to a system I don’t think I’ll ever truly understand but it gave some clarity.

Picked this true crime listen from the Audible Original list. Fairly short listen, a little over 5 hours. I was immediately sucked into the story. It’s a very difficult listen due to the brutality of the kidnappings. Definitely held my attention.

A Heatbreaking Investigation into Kidnappings

This was an excellent account of a series of kidnappings in Mexico and the convoluted history of the man arrested for them. Terrified residents of this well to do area never knew who would be next. Gives some recent Chile, where the suspect grew up along with questions and concerns. The saddest takeaway is that the handling of the cases by local authorities was less than it could’ve been and national attention came when several Americans were kidnapped and some killed. More attention came to the American case, than Mexican citizens in their own country.

Very intriguing, true Mexican government corruption, it really is chronic corruption, unsolved cases, feel awfully bad for the Mexican citizens. Liked the book

This was very well thought out. The story was investigated. The plot was interesting and the cultural aspects were well described. The listener receives a short political history of two countries and gets to make their own decisions of guilt or innocence.

How Kidnappings-Mexican police corruption- and Russian-Cuban intelligence’s services shadow cast continues affecting Latin American and in this particular case San Miguel de Allende Guanajuato Mexico.

I shared this audiobook with all my family then some!!!

Easy read

Story is told very well. Kudos to author for her candid and frank telling of corruption.

Worth a listen

A better title would be Crime and Corruption in Latin America. A couple of kidnappings (2 or 3) were mentioned but they were not the focus.

Brave, solid, thorough investigating

Truly fascinating deep dive into a petrifying reality the leaders can't-or don't want to-bring into control, and the rest of the world seems afraid to help. The drug and violence cultures of Mexico and some other Latino-?(please pardon me if that isn't a correct title)nations is astoundingly harsh, incredibly real. That no one can get a handle on it, whether it's too widespread and too bold, and/or because officials are too attached to their cuts, is painful to hear about. In the news, it seems sad but so far away, and almost easy to move on from. In a story such as this, the details are in your face, and remain in your head, long after each chapter.
I'm sure this investigator has many big cases and much success in front of her.

This story kept me up all the time, Sad, but true the reality is lived in Mexico. The story was well told and the actors made me be aware of every situation in the story.
