Good start for s new series

Good start for a new cozy series. Remains to be seen if the following books will be of the same caliber. First book was entertains with quirky characters.

Nice first book

Nice first book for a cozy mystery with some humor set in a small southern town. Each time I thought I knew the killer, I was wrong and had to continue on just like the heroin in the story. Loved the main characters Piper and her BFF, Reba Mae.

I will probably give the next book in the series a try but I am hoping that the “uses for various spices” are not as over done as they were in this book. I know the heroin is supposed to be the owner of a spice shop but the use of spice gets as stale as most spices on the shelves in many homes.

The narrator was great when using the voices of the many characters BUT as a reader (when the characters weren’t speaking) there was something about her tone that grated on my nerves.

Hopefully more to come from this author!

Easy to listen to

Loved it. Wish it included a couple of recipes.Reader was easy to listen to. Great job

boring and formulaic

This book was full of cliches and followed the formula for all cozy mysteries. 1. Sleazy ex husband. 2. Best friend who blindly follows lead character into sleuthing. 3. Small town picturesque setting rich with gossip. 4. Sheriff who can't solve the murder. 5. Several suspects with flimsy motives. 6. Ex husband now has younger woman/bimbo. 7. Quirky characters. 8. The lead character has two men interested in her. The only thing this book did not have was likeable characters. The characters were stereotypical, flat and annoying. I have no problem with authors using a formula to write a book. However, when using a formula you still have to be creative. This was not a creative attempt. I will not buy the next book.

Its a bit amaturish

I found that it was amateurish in the writing with gimmicky wording and references.. It got better as it got further into the story. Really seemed like it needed help from the editor to polish the story or maybe it was just immature?
