Rewire the brain processes that cause obsessions and compulsions - and take back your life!
If you've ever wondered why you seem to get trapped in an endless cycle of obsessive, compulsive thoughts, you don't have to wonder anymore. Grounded in cutting-edge neuroscience and evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Rewire Your OCD Brain will show you how and why your brain gets stuck in a loop of obsessive thinking, uncertainty, and worry; and offers the tools you need to short-circuit this response and get your symptoms under control-for good.
Written by clinical psychologist Catherine Pittman and clinical neuropsychologist William Youngs, this groundbreaking book will show how neurological functions in your brain lead to obsessions, compulsions, and anxiety. You'll also find tons of proven-effective coping strategies to help you manage your worst symptoms.
The brain is powerful, and the more you work to change the way you respond to obsessive thoughts, the more resilient you'll become. If you're ready to rewire the brain processes that lie at the root of your obsessive thoughts, this book has everything you need to get started today.

Historia
An estimated five million Americans suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and live diminished lives in which they are compelled to obsess about something or to repeat a similar task over and over. Traditionally OCD has been treated with Prozac or similar drugs. The problem with medication, aside from its cost, is that 30 percent of people treated don't respond to it, and when the pills stop, the symptoms invariably return.

Historia
When people are diagnosed with OCD, it doesn’t always come as a surprise. With others, it may be more of a shock. However, when we look at the symptoms and the influences that affect such people, it may not be any wonder that it is more prevalent than many have assumed it to be. OCD is a very real, common disorder that knows variations in severity and randomness. Some people are obsessed with cleaning, while others can’t stop double-checking locks, organizational spaces, or items.

It’s no wonder so many of us are stuck in a cycle of negativity and rumination.

Historia
Diagnosing obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) can be tricky, but when the symptoms are obvious, the conclusion is clear. OCD is quite common, and it is important to understand it. People who understand the disorder will have an easier time communicating and interacting with those who have it. But here is a question: Why is it called “obsessive compulsive”, in the first place? Aren’t obsessions and compulsions the same thing?

Wonderful in-depth neuroscience of OCD
I love very detailed books that explain exactly how things work. This book is that. As one example, the book helped me realize that fighting the stress response backfires because once the adrenaline is released, it has to work it’s way through the body for the stress response to be over. I used to freak out each time I felt my anxiety levels rise. Now I just mindfully breathe into it, waiting for it to work it’s course. It’s much more freeing. You definitely still need to work with a therapist, and the authors say so. But this book can definitely be of amazing help on the journey to taking back your life from OCD.

Great Help for OCD
this is a wonderful book. Catherine Pittman makes complicated brain science accessible to not only the provider, but the consumer of mental health treatment. the narrator is a little bit boring at times, but the repetition in the book is excellent. stick with it. and read it again and again. I highly recommend this as a therapist who treats OCD on a regular basis.

A must read for anyone with OCD in their life
This book was such an amazing comfort and I will def read it again and again. I wish help like this had been more accessible when I was a little girl. I thought I was crazy back then and sadly, anyone who I shared my ocd with only confirmed that for me. It is so amazing to know how intricate ocd is and how many ppl suffer from it. These writers are geniuses and the narrator was like a wise old sage, soothing your mind with every word.
I love the breakdown of all the chapters and how in depth they explain the science of ocd. I’ve heard throughout my life that ocd is not a thing or just to knock it off. I don’t mean that I will continue to use it as an excuse for my bad behavior, I only mean that it’s reassuring to see it emphasized as a true mental condition and to know that there is hope and help.
I really learned so much more about ocd and the science was mostly easy to follow. I think I am going to name my ocd Amygdala lmao. The examples of sufferers used was excellent and my heart twisted for each of them. The breathing and muscle exercises never work for me but everything else was incredibly insightful. I also loved that they mentioned the serenity prayer which is a logical saying apart from religion.
I highly recommend this godsend of a book to anyone who has ocd in their life, whether you are the sufferer or watching a loved one suffer. This is the help that they need, especially if they are wary of going to an actual therapist. Hands down best book on ocd I have ever read. So grateful ♥️

Defining Anxiety
This book was a good start to define anxiety. It defined it, described the responses in the body and provided ways to cope. It clearly defends the idea that getting rid of anxiety is not an option but that there are ways to soften its presence so you can live life more effectively.

Disappointingly Misleading....
Despite its title, the overwhelming majority of this book is not focused on providing relief to the OCD sufferer but rather on detailing a medical journal-voiced diagnostic of the OCD brain processes. Like many medical professionals-cum-writers the authors default to a communication style that is aimed for their peers and not for their patients. Thus the book pontificates about the amygdala for four hours before injecting the first three-minute relaxation exercise as a highly clinical afterthought.
Is the medical science sound? Yes....but to offer an analogy, if someone needs to learn how to change a spare tire, they are not necessarily looking to hear a four-hour explanation of load-capacity and torque-ratio calculation first.
