Acerca de esta escucha
The best-selling author of Lunch in Paris takes us on another delicious journey, this time to the heart of Provence.
Ten years ago New Yorker Elizabeth Bard followed a handsome Frenchman up a spiral staircase to a love nest in the heart of Paris. Now, with a baby on the way and the world's flakiest croissant around the corner, Elizabeth is sure she's found her "forever place". But life has other plans.
On a last romantic jaunt before the baby arrives, the couple take a trip to the tiny Provencal village of Céreste. A chance encounter leads them to the wartime home of a famous poet, a tale of a buried manuscript, and a garden full of heirloom roses. Under the spell of the house and its unique history, in less time than it takes to flip a crepe, Elizabeth and Gwendal decide to move - lock, stock and Le Creuset - to the French countryside.
When the couple and their newborn son arrive in Provence, they discover a land of blue skies, lavender fields, and peaches that taste like sunshine. Seduced by the local ingredients, they begin a new adventure as culinary entrepreneurs, starting their own artisanal ice cream shop and experimenting with flavors like saffron, sheep's milk yogurt, and fruity olive oil.
Filled with enticing recipes for stuffed zucchini flowers, fig tart, and honey & thyme ice cream, Picnic in Provence is the story of everything that happens after the happily ever after: an American learning the tricks of French motherhood, a family finding a new professional passion, and a cook's initiation into classic Provencal cuisine. With wit, humor, and a scoop of wild strawberry sorbet, Bard reminds us that life - in and out of the kitchen - is a rendezvous with the unexpected.

Historia
One grey dismal day, Janine Marsh was on a trip to northern France to pick up some cheap wine. She returned to England a few hours later having put in an offer on a rundown old barn in the rural Seven Valleys area of Pas de Calais. This was not something she'd expected or planned for. Janine eventually gave up her job in London to move with her husband to live the good life in France. Or so she hoped. While getting to grips with the locals and la vie Française, and renovating her dilapidated new house, a building lacking the comforts of mains drainage, heating, or proper rooms.

During the early twentieth century, transatlantic travel was the province of the great ocean liners. It was an extraordinary undertaking made by many women, whose lives were changed forever by their journeys between the Old World and the New. Some traveled for leisure, some for work; others to reinvent themselves or find new opportunities. They were celebrities, migrants and millionaires, refugees, aristocrats and crew members whose stories have mostly remained untold—until now.

Historia
The British have a relationship with their food that is unlike that of any other country. Once something that was never discussed in polite company, it is now something with which the nation is obsessed. But are we at last developing a food culture or are we just going through the motions? Eating for England is an entertaining, detailed, and somewhat tongue-in-cheek observation of the British and their food, their cooking, their eating, and how they behave in restaurants.

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Laurie Notaro isn't exactly a domestic goddess - unless that means she fully embraces her genetic hoarding predisposition, sneaks peeks at her husband's daily journal, or has made a list of the people she wants on her Apocalypse Survival team (her husband's not on it). Notaro chronicles her chronic misfortune in the domestic arts, including cooking, cleaning, and putting on Spanx while sweaty (which should technically qualify as an Olympic sport).

Out of Line describes Lynch's remarkable process of self-invention, including her encounters with colorful characters of the food world, and vividly evokes the magic of creation in the kitchen. It is also a love letter to South Boston and its vanishing culture, governed by Irish Catholic mothers and its own code of honor. Through her story, Lynch explores how the past - both what we strive to escape from and what we remain true to - can strengthen and expand who we are.

Anya occupies two parallel food universes: one where she writes about four-star restaurants, the other where a taste of humble kolbasa transports her back to her scarlet-blazed socialist past. To bring that past to life, in its full flavor, both bitter and sweet, Anya and her mother, Larisa, embark on a journey unlike any other: they decide to eat and cook their way through every decade of the Soviet experience - turning Larisa’s kitchen into a "time machine and an incubator of memories". Together, mother and daughter re-create meals both modest and sumptuous.

When she moved her young family to her husband's hometown in northern France, Karen Le Billon expected some cultural adjustment. But she didn't expect to be lectured for slipping her fussing toddler a snack, or to be forbidden from packing her older daughter a school lunch. Karen is intrigued by the fact that French children happily eat everything-from beets to broccoli, from salad to spinach - while French obesity rates are a fraction of what they are in North America.

Good story
While I enjoyed this book, it reminded me a lot of Peter Mayle's work, which, given the setting and story line, is somewhat unavoidable.
The author's account of her childhood, including the difficulties of living with a mentally ill parent, and her personal struggle to parent her son gave the book a more serious tone.
Over all, a good book, I recommend it.

Escape to Provence!
This book transported me to Provence while in my very own home. Light listening and uplifting story autobiography-perfect to daydream to while quarantining and safely refraining from travel. Works up an appetite and aspirations for new culinary endeavors! Lunch in Paris, another book by the same author, was a gift to me from my mother years ago, so I feel like I’m growing into female adulthood with her.

Inspired
This story inspired me to take that trip to Paris. My husband and I had planned that before he passed. Listening to the author vividly share her experience brought me joy. My friend enjoyed it as well. Elizabeth’s Journey and her interaction with the French people was fun to listen to. I learned much about the simple yet rich recipes and good food that is common where she lived. I hope she will write another book soon.

A cure for my wanderlust
Over the last few months nearly home bound by this pandemic, I have desperately longed for travel, to be transported elsewhere. This book carried me to the south of France. Both in vivid pictures painted with her words and Elizabeth’s voice. It usually takes me a month or more to read - but devoured this in 2 weeks.
