Acerca de esta escucha

Based on true events, PERMANENCE, is a dark, "Hitchcockian" literary tour-de-force about Mary Kismet, a woman who is holding onto a deep dark secret too painful and startling to reveal. Now, having isolated herself from the world, she attempts to break away from her demons by immersing herself, body and soul, into a passionate and erotic love affair with her psychiatrist. From NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY Bestselling author, Vincent Zandri, comes a story with an unforgettable climax. Called "hauntingly beautiful" by bOOk R3vi3ws, PERMANENCE is a tragic novel of obsession, dark compulsions, hard-boiled sexuality, and suspense. A short story version of PERMANENCE has previously been published in FUGUE: The Literary Journal of the University of Idaho, Orange Coast Magazine, and Lynx Eye. PRAISE FOR VINCENT ZANDRI “Vincent Zandri explodes onto the scene with the debut thriller of the year. The Innocent is gritty, fast-paced, lyrical, and haunting. Don’t miss it.” —Harlan Coben, author of Caught “A SATISFYING YARN.” —Chicago Tribune “COMPELLING…The Innocent pulls you in with rat-a-tat prose, kinetic pacing…characters are authentic, and the punchy dialogue rings true. Zandri’s staccato prose moves The Innocent at a steady, suspenseful pace.” —Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel “EXCITING…AN ENGROSSING THRILLER…the descriptions of life behind bars will stand your hair on end.” —Rocky Mountain News “READERS WILL BE HELD CAPTIVE BY PROSE THAT POUNDS AS STEADILY AS AN ELEVATED PULSE.…Vincent Zandri nails readers’ attention.” —Boston Herald “A SMOKING GUN OF A DEBUT NOVEL. The rough-and-tumble pages turn quicker than men turn on each other.” —The Times-Union (Albany) “THE STORY LINE IS NON-STOP ACTION and the flashback to Attica is eerily brilliant. If this debut is any indication of his work, readers will demand a lifetime sentence of novels by Vincent Zandri.” —I Love a Mystery “A TOUGH-MINDED, INVOLVING NOVEL…Zandri writes strong prose that rarely strains for effect, and some of his scenes…achieve a powerful hallucinatory horror.” —Publishers Weekly “A CLASSIC DETECTIVE TALE.” —The Record (Troy, N.Y.) “[Zandri] demonstrates an uncanny knack for exposition, introducing new characters and narrative possibilities with the confidence of an old pro…Zandri does a superb job creating interlocking puzzle pieces.” —San Diego Union-Tribune “This is a tough, stylish, heartbreaking car accident of a book: You don’t want to look but you can’t look away. Zandri is a terrific writer and he tells a terrific story.” —Don Winslow, author of The Death & Life of Bobby Z “SATISFYING.” —Kirkus Reviews Ficción Femenina Ficción Literaria Género Ficción

Dark and quite different.

Permanence is the forty-fourth book I’ve read or listened to by Vincent Zandri. Up until listening to this book narrated by virtual voice, I thought I could predict what I was going to experience. So, I was right on one small aspect of this story, but there is no way I could have predicted what I would experience listening to the story, nor was I ready for how the story was delivered or how it unfolded.

This is the weirdest story I’ve read by Vin Zandri, and to think it’s based on a true story. Holy cow, I’d love to read the original case, just to see how much of Permanence is the real story and how much is the author’s imagination.

I have to say I enjoyed listening to this story, I had to see how Mary and the Doctor would resolve Mary’s issues. Of course, the wrinkles in the doctor patient relationship showed up early and morphed into an unexpected aspect.

I’ve read a few other stories based on true life cases and each of those left me pondering my investment in the stories. Permanence is no different, while I finished listening early this morning, now ten hours later, I’m still visited by visuals of Mary and the Doctor, not to mention baby.
