Acerca de esta escucha
Do you want to know more about the Spanish influenza? Do you want to know more about current pandemics in the world?
This book charts the history and legacy of the worst global pandemics and begins with the history of the diseases, including the Spanish flu and many others and how they shaped subsequent events, bringing down nations while inadvertently lifting others.
The weapon against pandemic is the truth. Read why in this account of the Spanish influenza.
In this book, you will learn and know the story of one of the worst pandemics of all time which can help you better understand the present and future of human diseases, why pandemics happen, how they happen, and how to prevent them.
In the case of coronavirus, the most ideal carrier animal for this type of virus is a bat or snake, since humans don’t consume snakes and bats in several areas of the world, but in some places like China they are consumed, and it is suspected that the new outbreak is also linked to the consumption of an infected bat. The same is the cause for other coronavirus outbreaks in the past, and it is the origin of a novel coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan.
To prevent future epidemics, governments must take action on making policies for the sale and purchase of livestock like bats and snakes, and proper testing should be done before taking wild animals to the big markets near denser urban areas like Wuhan. One is the virus being brought into the market by an infected individual, the second is about the virus getting in the market with one infected animal, and the third predicts the effect of the virus getting into the market with the help of several animals at once.
This audiobook covers the following topics:
- Why Was It Called the Spanish Flu?
- What Caused the Spanish Flu?
- The Global Impact of The Largest Influenza Pandemic
- The Famous People Who Survived
- Business Risk and Continuity Planning
- Who Is Most at Risk?

Despite being relatively unheard of, endometriosis affects an estimated one in 10 women worldwide. That's roughly 190 million people, and due to misdiagnosis, there's likely many more who are suffering without treatment. Getting a diagnosis of endometriosis can feel like a blessing and a curse. Knowing that you're not going crazy or blowing things out of proportion can be a huge relief. However, a diagnosis can also lead to feelings of isolation and discouragement - especially when you’re faced with treatment options that seem extreme. But don't despair - you aren't alone.

Manipulation is characterized as "the act of manipulating somebody into an ideal behavior to accomplish a shrouded individual goal". Regularly, we don’t have any acquaintance with its transpiring as manipulative individuals can be unpretentious. Likewise, the nearness of feelings, for example, love, reliability and trust can mean we don’t see the truth of other individuals’ concealed plans. It’s anything but difficult to be attracted.

COVID-19 has stolen our security and our nation's peace of mind. There is a pandemic virus as well as a crippling epidemic of fear sweeping America. Why? Doctors, parents, and health officials were at a loss to explain why this formerly unheard-of disease began paralyzing so many children. Why did this disease start to become such a horrible problem during the late 1800s? Why did it affect children more often than adults? Why was it originally called teething paralysis by mothers and their doctors?

The story of viruses and humanity is a story of fear and ignorance, of grief and heartbreak, and of great bravery and sacrifice. Michael Oldstone tells all these stories as he illuminates the history of the devastating diseases that have tormented humanity, focusing mostly on the most famous viruses. For this revised edition, Oldstone includes discussions of new viruses like SARS, bird flu, virally caused cancers, chronic wasting disease, and West Nile. Viruses, Plagues, and History paints a sweeping portrait of humanity's long-standing conflict with our unseen viral enemies.

Historia
You are just 10% human. For every one of the cells that make up the vessel that you call your body, there are nine impostor cells hitching a ride. You are not just flesh and blood, muscle and bone, brain and skin, but also bacteria and fungi. Over your lifetime, you will carry the equivalent weight of five African elephants in microbes. You are not an individual but a colony. Until recently, we had thought our microbes hardly mattered, but science is revealing a different story, one in which microbes run our bodies and becoming a healthy human is impossible without them.

Ever since the 1918 Spanish influenza pandemic, scientists have dreamed of preventing catastrophic outbreaks of infectious disease. Yet despite a century of medical progress, viral and bacterial disasters continue to take us by surprise, inciting panic and dominating news cycles. From the Spanish flu to the 1924 outbreak of pneumonic plague in Los Angeles to the 1930 "parrot fever" pandemic, through the more recent SARS, Ebola, and Zika epidemics, the last one hundred years have been marked by a succession of unanticipated pandemic alarms.

One out of three women alive today, and one out of two men, will face a cancer diagnosis, according to the World Health Organization. Ty Bollinger takes this personally: in the course of a decade, he says, "I lost my entire family to cancer. I don't believe I had to lose them." The Truth about Cancer has been written for one simple reason: to share the knowledge we need to protect ourselves, treat ourselves, and in some cases save our lives or the lives of those we love.

Quarantine is our most powerful response to uncertainty: it means waiting to see if something hidden inside us will be revealed. It is also one of our most dangerous, operating through an assumption of guilt. In quarantine, we are considered infectious until proven safe. Until Proven Safe tracks the history and future of quarantine around the globe, chasing the story of emergency isolation through time and space - from the crumbling lazarettos of the Mediterranean, built to contain the Black Death, to an experimental Ebola unit in London, and from the hallways of the CDC.

Velasquez-Manoff also details a controversial underground movement that has coalesced around the treatment of immune-mediated disorders with parasites. Against much of his better judgment, he joins these do-it-yourselfers and reports his surprising results.
