One Trip Too Many, A Pilot’s Memoirs of 38 Months in Combat over Laos and Vietnam, is an autobiography about my life as a pilot in Southeast Asia during the conflict in Vietnam. It is primarily a story to share with family and friends about my personal involvement in the conflict and the turbulent decade of the 60s and does not attempt to question the politics of the era. It begins with a brief description of my quest to gain admittance to the United States Air Force Academy, my four years at the Academy, and the subsequent year of pilot training. I flew three different types of aircraft in combat and the book provides insight into the training that took place for the C-130 Hercules, the F-105 Thunderchief, and the A-1 Skyraider. Each of the three tours in combat over Laos and Vietnam is described with emphasis on the more memorable flights including a bailout in the A-1 and the final crash on takeoff that ended my active duty Air Force career. My time in various hospitals is described at the end of the book and the epilogue tells briefly of my life after retirement from the United States Air Force. The book has been described as a combination of Band of Brothers, Top Gun, and Forrest Gump. Ejército y Guerra Histórico Aviación Fuerza Aérea Memorias Fuerza Aérea de US Militar Guerra

Great details, make the story come to life!

Great storytelling of an action filled 10 year Air Force pilot’s service. The author’s grit and determination lead to an amazingly diverse flying career under adverse conditions during the was in SE Asia.

I found the book authoritative, well researched and well written. My audiobook “read” was only marred by the inability of “Virtual Voice” to deal with aircraft and unit numerical designations and its inability to pronounce Vietnamese names.

A straightforward, no nonsense account of the highlights of an exemplary Air Force career.

This is worth the read, but the machine reading is really bad. Calling migs meeges, is just one example that was very distracting.

Great story, but the reading was horrible.

Narration is very detailed in recounting the names and ranks of every airman as as well as interacted this also extends to the aircraft manufacturer and performance and type, but also they serial assign id numbers.

The self facing and private review of his flying as well as his personal life and interaction with other pilots

I liked this book. The story line was very good. I have read many books on the Vietnam war and this one is one of the better ones. The virtual voice was a disservice to the author's story. The many mispronunciations were distracting and out right pathetic. I would buy this, but not with the virtual voice narration. Meegess (Migs?) and many other problems. Chapter 12 was not in the table of contents. I would not recommend this audible book. Buy the print version of the book instead.

One too many

The virtual voice did ok but was not great with technical details. Numbers and such.

Story was great.

I suppose that without virtual voice we could not listen to any of this book but it is far to distracting. Suff like KIA, killed in action read as Kia, the car company. Lead, as in the metal, vs lead as in the leader. 9mm a nine-millimeters, instead of 9 millimeter. Give us a real narrator.

Virtual voice decent on this one...

A great story of a man who flew some of the most storied aircraft of the Vietnam War. But the AI reading is terrible. Buy the book and skip the audio.

Great story, well written…very poor read by a robot.

I really enjoyed the book, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how much the AI narrated took away from it. Does no one "proof listen" to these? Some examples..."migs" are pronounced "me-geez" and K.I A. is pronounced Kee-ahh, like the Korean car company. Only a couple of example there among a ton of mistakes. BUT, the story is fantastic and I did enjoy it despite the annoyance of the naration.

Great Book, AI narrated stinks
