Maintaining stability in a city full of pirates is a delicate balancing act, particularly when one is motivated by making sure the common folk are taken care of instead of simple personal greed. Jarlaxle and his band of rogues known as Bregan D'aerthe are doing their best, stabilizing the city after warding off a terrible attack by demonic and gnoll forces.

But now three merchant ships have been destroyed and sent to the ocean floor - obliterated in such a quick and brutal manner that it makes little sense it’s pirates seeking plunder. Something is out there on or under the cold dark waters of the Sword Coast, and it threatens the trade Jarlaxle will need to bring prosperity to Luskan.

About the Creator

As one of the fantasy genre's most successful authors, R. A. Salvatore enjoys an ever-expanding and tremendously loyal following. His books regularly appear on The New York Times best-seller lists, have sold more than 35 million copies, and have been translated into numerous foreign languages, including German, Italian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Turkish, Croatian, Bulgarian, Yiddish, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Czech, and French.
When he isn't writing, Salvatore chases after Pikel, his Japanese Chin, takes long walks, hits the gym, and coaches/plays on an adult-league softball team that includes many of his family. His gaming group still meets on Sundays to play.

About the Performer

Victor Bevine is an author, actor, and narrator who has worked extensively for over 35 years. His short film, Desert Cross, won accolades at the Athens International Film Festival. His screenplay, Certainty, was chosen for two writers’ conferences (LA Outfest, Hamptons International Film Festival) and served as the basis for his first novel, published in 2014. Bevine spent two seasons as artistic director of the Classical Theatre Lab in Los Angeles and has worked extensively with nonprofits in New York and Los Angeles teaching the power of storytelling to young people in underserved communities. As an actor, Bevine has appeared on and off Broadway at the New York Shakespeare Festival, Circle in the Square, and Playwrights Horizon. On the big screen he has appeared most notably in the adaptation of John Knowles's A Separate Peace, and has acted in dozens of guest and recurring roles on the small screen. A four-time Audie nominee, winner of multiple Earphones Awards, and over 350 narrated titles to his credit, Bevine is proud to be a member of the corps of Audible narrators helping to bring great storytelling to a new world of "readers."

Bob Salvatore has written another great short story with suspense, action, and intrigue following the events of Timeless, Boundless, Relentless that doesn’t say much to spoil the main events of those books besides a couple of asides. I wasn’t aware this was coming out until I saw it in the audible exclusives library, so I’ve got to say I’m a little confused as to the strategy of that but nevertheless.

Victor Bevine does a good job on the whole, you can hear a few re-take splices in a couple spots.

I do pray my friends that Salvatore continues his path with one eyed jax storyline. I just wish he put out books faster. Always a great read. Great book and sets up possibilities for future. If you are on the last book. Lolths warrior stop and listen to this one first.
