When Chet the dog, "the most lovable narrator in all of crime fiction" (Boston Globe), and his partner, PI Bernie Little of the desert-based Little Detective Agency, arrive to a meeting with hydrologist Wendell Nero, they are in for a shocking sight - Wendell has come to a violent and mysterious end.
What did the hydrologist want to see them about? Is his death a random robbery, or something more? Chet and Bernie, working for nothing more than an eight-pack of Slim Jims, are on the case.
Bernie might be the only one who thinks the police have arrested the wrong man, including the perp's own defense attorney.
Chet and Bernie begin to look into Wendell's work, a search that leads to a struggling winemaker who has received an offer he can't refuse. Meanwhile, Chet is smelling water where there is no water, and soon Chet and Bernie are in danger like never before.

chet the jet is the best!!!!
the mystery aspect is so so but Chet is so hilarious i binge on one book after the other. He’s happy trigger for Bernie to use the .38 special or do an upper cut on a perp 🤣 this series is a lot of fun & have so many LOL moments. He adores his partner so much and thinks he has “the most beautiful face” hahhaha. I love how he’s so loyal, always hungry & forgetful.

This was the best storyline in the Chet and Bernie series yet. There was actually character development in this book. And of course Chet is always wonderful.

One of the best yet
The mix of Chet and Bernie’s relationship and a great mystery have never been better. Great supporting characters, great villains. The inclusion of Susie makes it even better.
Jim F is, as usual, great as the voice of Chet.
I was happy that the Porsche survived. Although, like a drummer for Spinal Tap, it’s only a matter of time before it dies. :-)
I’m glad they mentioned Netflix. When the heck is going to pick up on these books and make it a series?
I’m thinking Kiefer Sutherland would be a great voice for Chet.
