But when North arrives, legends of riches have given way to terrors of epic proportions! North must decide whether to seek his fortune... or save the village.
When our rebellious hero gets sucked into the chaos (literally), the fight becomes very personal. The Nightmare King and his evil Fearlings are ruling the night, owning the shadows, and sending waves of fear through all of Santoff Clausen. For North, this is a battle worth fighting... and, he’s not alone. There are five other Guardians out there. He only has to find them in time.

Genius, or imbecile?
I'm honestly not sure if the writer is a genius or an imbecile. The story has (as usual) absolutely nothing to do with the movie version, "Rise of the Guardians," but that is not necessarily a bad thing. The book has space aliens, distant galaxies, an ancient space battle, and people doing magic, interwoven. Yes, there's the old Arthur C Clarke quote about technology and magic, but the book specifically says that people are using magic and making technology.
I spent the entire book wondering... Is this brilliant, or is this scientology-level garbage.
And I'm still not sure.
Take that for what you will.
I'll start book 2 and make my decision based on that.

Fun adventure!
This is a fun version of Saint Nicholas' origin. It is full of magic, adventure, and suspense. It takes a character we all know and love and twists his backstory into something new and exciting.
