Acerca de esta escucha

Anyone familiar with H. P. Lovecraft's work knows of the Necronomicon, the black-magic grimoire he invented as a literary prop in his classic horror stories. There have been several attempts at creating this text, yet none stand up to Lovecraft's own descriptions of the Necronomicon...until now. Fans of Lovecraftian magic and occult fiction will delight in Donald Tyson's Necronomicon, based purely within Lovecraft's own fictional universe, the Cthulhu Mythos.

This grimoire traces the wanderings of Abdul Alhazred, a necromancer of Yemen, on his search for arcane wisdom and magic. Alhazred's magical adventures lead him to the Arabian desert, the lost city of Irem, ruins of Babylon, lands of the Old Ones, and Damascus, where he encounters a variety of strange creatures and accrues necromantic secrets.

Okay, now I know how to become a necromancer!

Loved the book, it’s not just great exposure to the mythos, but also really hits that feel of books from the early 1900s in a way that really engrossing.

Also it’s just really smart book, I found myself patting my back several times understanding how what is described matches knowledge of the real world, but filtered through pulp lens of Lovecraft’s era of pulp fiction.

Definitely will listen to it “three times” …

Love This Book

I've read this book a number of times and just love it. At first, Matt Godfrey's voice seemed strange for it, but after settling in, it stopped being an issue. what a fun and interesting outline of a necromancer's travels!

Highly recommended, on one condition

Beware if you are a 'Lovecraft Purist', as there are a couple of things that are not very accurate to Lovecraft's writings. It surprises me that's the case, considering it is generally otherwise well-researched and takes plenty of inspiration from the writings of the Lovecraft Circle where it tends to be a lot more faithful to be established lore.

I didn't have any issues forgiving the inaccuracies since it is otherwise very well crafted.
I would even go as far as saying that this is one of the works I've found most enjoyable outside of the Lovecraft Circle.
Highly enjoyable from start to finish, with a suitable Narrator.
On the top of my head, I can not find anything other than the inaccuracies to criticize.

The lack of good entries to the C'thulu Mythos makes this an absolute must for any fan, provided you take into account my previous statement. Highly recommended.

New way to picture the Lovecraft world

Takes you on the journey of the creator of the necronomicon. How and why. Great descriptive abilities of this author give you a picture of the worlds and the grotesque creatures that inhabit them. Not for the faint of heart but if you are reading any aspect of Lovecraft s world's.

A MUST for Cthulhu Mythos acolytes!

The premise - to write the actual story of medieval occult scholar Abdul Alhazred’s life, with excerpts from his cryptic forbidden masterwork, the feared Necronicon, is an absurdly audacious undertaking. Donald Tyson ‘s masterful writing, read by the dryly erudite Matt Godfrey was more than up to the task. Fantastically realized reverse engineered addition to HPL’s literary legacy of Cosmic Horror.

Awesome atmosphere

This is a great story told as a horrifying, psychedelic travel guide of the journey of Al Hazred. I’ve listened to this so many times just in the last year because it hits a spot that I’ve never experienced, and I can’t find anything else like it.
