Acerca de esta escucha

Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's Navigators of Dune is the climactic finale of the Great Schools of Dune trilogy, set 10,000 years before Frank Herbert's classic Dune.

The story line tells the origins of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood and its breeding program, the human-computer Mentats, and the Navigators (the Spacing Guild), as well as a crucial battle for the future of the human race, in which reason faces off against fanaticism. These events have far-reaching consequences that will set the stage for Dune, millennia later.

Science fiction is a genre as diverse as you can imagine. There are stories that take place in deep space, often depicting teams exploring or running away from something; stories that focus on life at the most cellular level, such as a pandemic tale; and stories that take place in times that feel similar to our own. Depicting themes of existentialism, philosophy, hubris, and personal and historical trauma, sci-fi has a cadre of topics and moods.

Science fiction capstone

The conclusion to this trilogy was a great end to this epic section of the mega saga that is Dune. If you love a huge, character driven story then this is for you. It is interesting to see both extreme factions come to blows in this book. In many cases I really did not know which side I was rooting for...sometimes neither and sometimes both. The performance makes you want to continue to listen for hours. I could not recommend this book more.

Another Brilliant Narrative!

Whether read as a standalone piece or as a continuation of the unending Dune saga, this compilation juxtapositions two competing philosophies to chart the trajectory of the human race. The anticipation of which players survive and which beliefs remain will captivate you with absolute certainty.

Brian and Kevin do Frank a real service!

Where does Navigators of Dune rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The new Dune novels are always a pleasure to listen to. This book was well written, narration was wonderful, and I hope there is more to come.

What did you like best about this story?

If you are a fan of the Dune universe, than this story is exactly what you wanted to read. Learning about how the various organizations came to be was exciting, and fascinating. The Navigators guild, the Sisterhood, and the Mentat's in their toddler stage, how their philosophic concepts lead to a humanity that reaches out for a potential that you come to believe is possible, ok maybe not for the Navigators, but why not organized thoughts? Why not precise mental control over your physical being?

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The great thing about Scott Brick, is that he doesn't become part of the story. His narration has the ability to weave a great story into mental image that engrosses you.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I wouldn't actually want this one made into a movie because I don't see how it could be done well. Perhaps a multi-season tv series, but then again it would kind of require information from the earlier books and could be confusing.

Any additional comments?

For some people, Starwars is the best thing ever, for some people it was Star Trek, for me it has been and always will be the Dune Universe. I realize there are other great series out there, but nothing captures the imagination like Dune.

Another installment

Another story from the Dune universe with S. Brick at the mic. More of the backstory at about 80 years after the Corrin Omnius bites the power cord. A fun read.

better than star wars: fate of the jedi series

the series was slow, i admit. but the plot was deep and there were a few twists and turns. not a lot of action, but just enough. i recommend doing more character voices like marc thompson and get better sound effects. i need to hear laser blasts and space ship sounds. better than the robot apocolypse trilogy. as much as i like star wars books, the dune books are way deeper. plus frank herberts sons books are way easier to understand than the originals, i kind of like that. well developed characters. i propose selling the series to lucasfilm and have peter jackson direct a movie saga. anyways, super epic, good scifi. mostly appropriate for younger audiences too, which my innocent mind appreciates.

Another hit!

What can I say, I'm a total fan of the author, narration, and epic saga. This installment is the perfect close and transition to the later books. Contains new and interesting events that add depth and detail to this rich and memorable universe. Well done, bravo! Encore!

Best of the Trilogies

The 3 books - Sisters, Mentats, and Navigators of Dune - form the best of the various trilogies created by Frank Herbert’s heirs to his written legacy. Highly recommend! Enjoy!

Another great addition!

A little slow starting, but still a great addition to the saga. Can't wait to get to the next one.

Good backstory

Like ‘Mentats’ and ‘Sisterhood’ this provide a nice addition to the backstory of Dune. One character’s resolution conflicts with Book 7… I’m hoping there is another story that explains this.
