Historia
“They’re going to kill me soon,” begins the note Amelia discovers in an antique hurdy-gurdy. From that moment on, the shy young woman finds herself doing all kinds of things she never thought possible. Between newfound intimacies and a risky journey into the past, Amelia comes to see herself in a whole new light. The scrawled note drives Amelia to find out what happened to the person who wrote it, identified only as “Hannah.” Who was Hannah? Was she really murdered? Amelia’s investigation leads her to dizzying new heights of romance and danger. Like a tightrope walker, she must not look down—especially when she finds herself in situations uncannily similar to those Hannah faced just before her murder. Like the Mrs. Pollifax mysteries for which Dorothy Gilman is famous, The Tightrope Walker features a spirited and unpretentious heroine and an intriguing mystery, enhanced by colorful settings and characters. Ruth Ann Phimister’s skillful narration adds a personal dimension, making you care about Amelia and the fascinating and dangerous people she meets.

Few would have imagined that twenty-one years later, she would find herself in Spain as a deep-cover OSS agent, infiltrating the highest levels of Spanish society, or that five years later still, she would marry a Spanish grandee and become one of the most watched, most admired, most fascinating women of international society. This is the story of Aline, Countess of Romanones, a story of courage, beauty and success that is far more exciting than any fictionalized thriller.

Earth is being invaded by the shetani - spirit creatures so small and stealthy that only one man knows about the increasing peril. The potential savior is an African elder named Olkeloki who is capable of fighting evil both in this world and the spirit one. But to be successful he must recruit the help of two others: government agent Joshua Oak, and a feisty young woman named Merry Sharrow. Only the three of them can keep the shetani from destroying reality as we know it.

The fiction world of today needs a “Saint” more than it ever did. For years now that scene has been dominated by the “anti-heroes"—those grim gray operators in a sunless sub-culture where global issues are worked out with totally unemotional pragmatism, those hapless uninspired puppets manipulated and expended by ruthlessly dedicated little brothers of Big Brother. It made morbidly fascinating narrative, but it never gave anyone a lift until it climaxed in the hyper-gadgeted parodies of 007 extravaganzas.

Enjoyable story
Another enjoyable Mrs Pollifax story. As with most the Mrs Pollifax books there are amazing coincidences that fall into place neatly. I love how these books make me smile.
The only drawback is the quality of the recording. You can hear a slight echo and there is some crackling.

The best of the best...so far!
The Mrs. Pollifax books are at once suspenseful, sometimes to the point of nail-biting, yet comforting! You know, or you sincerely hope, that all will be well in the end. But the ride to the end is a thrill!
How can stories about a little old lady be thrilling? Well, the author knows just how to enamor you to her characters so that you really do care about them. And this narrator brings them all to life. I feel like a fly on the wall throughout all the stories!
I highly recommend the series to all cozy mystery lovers. If you like the other books I've reviewed, you'll like these. They are most similar to Murder She Wrote except, more endearing. The way this particular one ended left me with my mouth hanging open! Now I MUST go on to the next volume IMMEDIATELY!!!! Sorry my review isn't longer, but I've no time. Gotta start the next book!!!!

Intrigue and Romance in Africa
I chose this particular Mrs. Pollifax mystery based on the locale - I've always wanted to go on a safari, and these stories are perfect for armchair travellers.
As is the case with the other books that I've read in this series, I enjoyed it immensely. Towards the end of the book there were a few scenes that didn't really ring true to me, but the story was strong enough that it didn't spoil it. There was also a little romance in this book - it's on safari that Emily meets Cyrus, so that filled in some gaps in her storyline for me.
Barbara Rosenblatt's narration is terrific, as it has been for anything I've listened to of hers.

Stellar read
Mrs. Pollifax added an interesting man into her life. She also encountered a long lost friend Both men came to be most important. Setting unique.
