Extreme inhumanity
A history story with great accuracy. Many parts of the story are from letters and archival data. The tragic losses to humans and animals was so severe at times I thought I would have to stop reading.

Good Historical Narrative
Good, not great historical narrative reminiscent of Beevor’s Stalingrad book. Harder to relate to an older century but strong enough narrative and soldiers’ details to get through slower backstory. It was a good primer for Napoleonic times.

A chronicle of misery.....
Interrupted by brief summaries of the clash of armies. This is more a catalogue of the miseries endured by the troops than a balanced account of the campaign. Not really my cup of tea.
