Short story collection
Kameron Hurley’s Meet Me in the Future is a collection of fifteen short stories, mostly sci-fi with military oriented themes. One fantasy tale involves body hopping and a pet elephant. In most of the military entries, gender roles are reversed in a largely unimaginative manner of simply swapping he and she without any explanation for this state.
Hurley offers a wide range of quality with a few thought-provoking entries, but the majority are simply a decent yeoman effort as part of a creative writing class.
The narration is reasonable with decent character distinction with smooth pacing throughout.
