Acerca de esta escucha

What would you do if you were turned into an AI?

Max didn't ask to be created, but it was a case of mistaken identity and he had no say in the matter. Now he is without his flesh and blood body, in a strange new digital realm, and not taking it really well. However, his new existence comes with abilities that the regular humans can only dream about.

If absolute power corrupts, can he avoid being corrupted?

These are the logs he wrote for posterity. Written in his voice and not meant for the general public.

Listen at your own discretion, but be warned—once you start, you may never go back to your mundane existence.

A different point of view

I liked how the author was able to make the story from the book of an AI so interesting, and how he made it flow from this sand the Spaceship in the Stone.

Lots of back ground

If you know the starship in the stone, this will make a bunch of things more clear. It could stand on its own but is not really intended as a stand alone book

Good stuff.

This was a good extra. It rounds out the story and adds extra context and humor to the overall story.

Book 1 retold from Max's view.

Although it was nice to get the story from Max's point of view, I had to slog through it until I noted that this is book 1.5 and thought I was listening to 2.0. I will listen to it again later because I kept losing attention due to story duplication. Later in the 1.5 book new information did grab my attention again. When I listen to book 2, I will greatly appreciate Max.

Max was a busy boy...oops AI

This was cool. Loved the behind the scenes activity couched in a journal style legacy document.

Fun Premise but annoying diatribe about PC near the end.

To start- the irony is not lost on me that I am commenting about the use of language in response to a rant about not being able to “say things anymore.” Further, the premise of an AI slowly becoming narcissistic and megalomaniacal through the unwinding of chapters was a really interesting read. However, near the end of the book the author went on a rant that I would only describe as a “get off my lawn” type of commentary. At first I though “Oh cool! We’re seeing how Max is subtly becoming evil after becoming a Gestalt intelligence. This must be another consequence of him losing his sanity.” Unfortunately, it went on for so long that I can only assume it was intended to be something the author agreed with. I hold out hope that skepticism of Max’s morality was the goal and the author does not align himself with such lightweight intellectual views of “our language is disappearing” or “you just can’t say anything anymore.” The part I’m referring to was when he wrote that we can’t say “Black” anymore because of political correctness. Not only CAN we say Black, but (if the author believes these things) he is sort of telling on himself for all the times he may have said Black in a derogatory way. It felt like I was reading a Rush Limbaugh monologue or listening to a drunk conservative uncle. There is no government agency that will “put you in jail for three years” for saying the word Black, like he crudely joked about. I get that fantasy authors are often didactic through their characters and there is CERTAINLY a place for that, but it felt like an experienced (and entertaining- I may add) talented author weighed in on something that was not well researched. Does he really believe we are all going around calling short people “vertically challenged?” It was a shame because I love the storyline and premise. I will be taking a break from this series and I hope it really was supposed to be Max slipping into temporary insanity. The author has the right to say whatever he’d like, but doesn’t have the right to my money, attention, or respect after such a diatribe. It really did seem like the sudden random musings of a person who was just told he was being crass or crude. It seemed to be antithetical to how SCIFI can be an exploration and examination of social mores and injustices (see Star Trek and The Twilight Zone). Some may take issue with my thoughts, but just consider the irony (or maybe paradox?) of raging against the dismantling of free speech while simultaneously begrudging me. Don’t be all PC about it!
