A good idea gone bad
As a Queen fan since the 1970s, I really wanted to like this. Unfortunately, there are two big problems I failed to anticipate.
One, the material gets very old very quickly. It can be boiled down to a whole bunch of people, most of whom have some peripheral involvement in the music industry, but who nobody has ever heard of. And they all say more or less the same thing. It's only cool the first 400 times. Then you realize there are another bazillion left to hear (exaggerating for effect).
But by far the worst thing about this audiobook is how difficult it is to listen to. A word to anyone contemplating their own audiobook: professional voice talent is worth the money.
The author/narrator speaks clearly and legibly, but in no way the way humans actually talk. He pauses in weird places, adds inflections where they don't belong, stressing words that shouldn't be stressed-- it's just a mess. It didn't take long before I wasn't able to hear the content anymore, all I could concentrate on was how poor the performance was. I'm afraid I have to return this one, I'm only 20 minutes into it and I simply can't go any further. Sorry, author, I don't mean to hurt your feelings. But the reading really is that bad.
