“A great day is upon us. He is coming. The world will be washed away.”
On the wind-battered isle of Altnaharra, off the wildest coast of Scotland, a clan prepares to bring about the end of the world and its imminent rebirth.
The Adder is coming and one of their number will inherit its powers. They all want the honor, but young Eve is willing to do anything for the distinction.
A reckoning beyond Eve’s imagination begins when Chief Inspector Black arrives to investigate a brutal murder and their sacred ceremony goes terribly wrong.
And soon all the secrets of Altnaharra will be uncovered.

“Ward’s skillful weaving of horror and mystery forms a dense, rich tapestry....The play of imagery is as engrossing as the plot twists, making this a rewarding outing from any angle. Horror fans won’t want to miss this.” —Publishers Weekly, STARRED review
"Little Eve is the sort of book that will both surprise and shock you...It’s delightful and disturbing by turns, and almost impossible to put down once you’ve started." —Paste
“Told in dual timelines, Little Eve is a deliciously spooky book, with prose like whispers on the wind. This one is for fans of cult stories (like me) and the gothic (also me), with dynamic characters and intense pseudo-religious psychology.” —Tor.com

Anyways. .. At first it was a bit slow but quickly I was pulled in. You start to realize not is all what it seems. The narrator does sound the same for the different girl's voices but she also says who she is at the time, so it's common sense and you figure out who is who. There's no confusion. The last may be four chapters I literally could not turn it off whether I was driving, walking into the house, doing things.... I just couldn't turn it off. I liked how the story really showed how susceptible our minds are to conditioning. Uncle in the story is basically a cult leader. Limiting The knowledge the girls receive and his word is law. Following that law will give you love and comfort. Small disobedience will give you The shut off of any love and affection and also even physical discipline. We could focus on the negativity but in the end. I do believe it's a story about the strength of a young girl finding what is true. I highly recommend.

Needs a better narrator.

This one is quite a ride! Altnaharra harbors such a horrible man, Uncle rules with an iron fist and will not be undermined. What these children endure all in the name of being pure for the coming reckoning is hard to read but the ending makes it well worth it.
Cultish and Great

A bit of a challenge but worth it

This story of Little Eve is so different from the first book I read of hers, and it is such a disturbing little story... but I had to finish it.
It encompasses many feelings while reading it: shock, disgust, and cheering for the children who were being brainwashed into staying with "Uncle."
It is a story worth reading and I do enjoy the way Catriona Ward writes.
