BOOK EXTRACT "How could someone with the stage name Lady Gaga become anything except a household name? Some people just naturally belong on billboards. With Fright wigs, fake blood, and ritualistic performances as suggestively limitless as her name... Lady Gaga reigns, in all of her pulchritudinous splendor, as the Queen of the Obscene...darkening the world with controversial musical interpretations of the grotesque...and it appears that the choir girl from Hell, born to us in March, 1986 as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, appears to be here to stay. Novelist Tom Wolfe labeled the 70s as “The "Me" Decade “ in his article “The ‘Me’ Decade and the Third Great Awakening". It was in this environment that the gothic music genre united punk rockers, heavy metal fans, and even some conservative Rock-n-Rollers in a World Wide Web. The Internet would play a large role in connecting gays, the depressed, the addicted, the heartbroken and the misunderstood internationally, furthering the growth and prominence of Goth. The years of the Goth movement have been placed roughly between 1971 and 1984. During this period, it seemed everybody was in some type of artistic movement. From punk to the new wave Brit Heavy Metal… Psychobilly and the Futuristic movement… the earliest Goth bands can....."
