J. P. Morgan is more than just the name on one of the largest banks in America. What a great way to listen

What a great way to listen about one of the greatest financial dynasties of all time. It's also a pretty great overview of US finance from 1850 to 1990.

J. P. Morgan: The Life and Deals of America's Banker has really good writing and allows the listener to immerse in financial history and the involvement of JP Morgan in it.

Fantastic history

A great look at the specific history of JP Morgan and more broadly at the development of financial and banking systems and the accompanying legal framework. An unvarnished look at the tribal undertones of a less politically correct time and the dichotomy that it presented.

I suggest this book is not recommended for everyone.There is no proper info about J.P Morgan. It will be better if it proviede all the info.

Excellent. Shows that the finance industry

Excellent. Shows that the finance industry, and in the USA that was Morgan for 100 years, banking outlives governments and wars. Must listening for anyone trying to understand modern global history.

Excellent part of finance history.

Hell of a book, each chapter tells you a part of the history of the financial system as a whole and some part of the private lives of these huge bankers.

J. P. Morgan: The Life and Deals of America's Banker is truly one of the best written and most interesting histories I’ve listen. The strong secondary subject matter is the economic, political and diplomatic history of the United States, which actually takes primary stage for much of the book. J. R. MacGregor had full access to an historical treasure trove of Morgan documents relating to their dealings with U.S. Presidents, nefarious dictators, various and sundry “robber barons,” the Federal Reserve bank, the Bank of England, Continental and Asian state banks, a wide spectrum of politicians from Japan, China, Europe, Mexico and South America — let alone the United States, Charles Lindberg, and a slew of other unusual personages. At its core, it’s a history of high finance, but J. R. MacGregor mastery weaves what could be dry subject matter into the “movement and tension of an epic novel,” to quote the NY Times.

Great, Long, Winding

The J. P. Morgan: The Life and Deals of America's Banker takes some force of will to make it through. There are times when J. R. MacGregor can take an anecdote and turn it into 3-5 chapter of unnecessary detail. That being said, he dutifully retells the entire history of Morgan and it is a fascinating listen of both business and politics throughout modern american history and banking.
