Christopher Darden
Acerca de esta escucha
For more than a year, Christopher Darden argued tirelessly for the prosecution, giving voice to the victims in the 0.J. Simpson murder trial. This number-one New York Times best seller is an unflinching look at what the television cameras could not show: behind-the-scenes meetings; the deteriorating relationships between the defense and prosecution teams; the taunting, baiting, and pushing matches between Darden and Simpson; the intimate relationship between Darden and Marcia Clark; and the candid factors behind Darden's controversial decision for Simpson to try on the infamous glove, and much more.
Out of the sensational frenzy of "The Trial of the Century" comes this haunting memoir of duty, justice, and the powerful undertow of American racism.
A stunning masterpiece told with brutal honesty and courage.

From the outside, the prosecution's case looked bulletproof, but Marcia Clark knew better. Mountains of physical evidence connected O. J. Simpson to the murders of Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman, but that didn't mean it would be easy. For the woman charged with prosecuting the "Trial of the Century", the light of fame would glow white hot, as the media scrutinized her strategy, her family, even her hair. As the case spun out of control, Marcia Clark stood tall.

It was the trial that stunned America, the verdict that shocked us all. On July 5, 2011, nearly three years after her initial arrest, Casey Anthony walked away, virtually scot-free, from one of the most sensational murder trials of all time. She'd been accused of killing her daughter, Caylee, but the trial only left behind more questions: Was she actually innocent? What really happened to Caylee? Was this what justice really looked like?

Historia
On June 7, 1998, James Byrd, Jr., a 49-year-old black man, was dragged to his death while chained to the back of a pickup truck driven by three young white men. It happened just outside of Jasper, a sleepy East Texas logging town that, within 24 hours of the discovery of the murder, would be inextricably linked in the nation's imagination to an exceptionally brutal, modern-day lynching. In this superbly written examination of the murder and its aftermath, award-winning journalist Joyce King brings us on a journey that begins at the crime scene.

Simpson to the murders of Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman, but that didn't mean it would be easy. For the woman charged with prosecuting the "Trial of the Century", the light of fame would glow white hot, as the media scrutinized her strategy, her family, even her hair. awesome book
I truly enjoyed this book. it was raw honest and true to Chris Darden. I think I I appreciated this book more because it was Chris Darden voice and it was very authentic very as if you were in the court with him and knowing the background emotions that we're going on at the same time.

good story not great worth the money though
I bought this audiobook after listening to his interview on Reasonable Doubt. it was an interesting story but I feel like all I listened to was an overview. there was a lot more that I wish had gone into detail about. the overall quality was not excellent either on the audio side

A Great Man Tested!!
I wanted to read this book because seeing the trial on TV, I noticed how Judge Ito was weak, and awestruck by stars; and in the stardom of his infamy. I felt so bad for Christopher Darden, and Marcia Clark. No matter what they did they were railroaded by the Defense and Judge Ito. Christopher Darden is a great man and I felt bad for him, with the pain he suffered, just trying to do his job. He should hold his head up high in the community, for he did the right thing, and he did it well!! GOD’s Blessings for the future and for Christopher Darden!!

Author-narrated/well-written - yet abridged
What did you love best about In Contempt?
It was good to hear this narrated by the author, and good to hear the story from his viewpoint.
Any additional comments?
Beware, though, this is advertised as unabridged, yet it is only less than 3 hrs. and at the end it says abridged.

Frank, compelling account of racialized trial
Mr. Darden presents a very iimportant perspective, particularly as an African American, prosecuting Simpson. He sheds light on the complicated, thankless, dangerous position in which he found himself for taking on the unpopular job of proving a Black man guilty of the ultimate crime. While his motives were laudable, Darden demonstrates that equality under the law for African Americans is deeply troubled, due to the gross injustices expected by African Americans by law enforcement and the judicial system from the past. Still, and I hope this isn't too much of a spoiler, he argues that the most equitable system of justice is the one in which the guilty party is held accountable, which got lost in this case.

Good view of the other side.
I liked listening to Chris Darden's take on the trial and his outrage at how it played out. It is hard not to be angered at the in justice going on at the time but playing your part in that injustice is not the answer.
