Would you like to know how you'll be getting around town, playing, and working in the future?
At the 2017 World Government Summit, Tesla founder Elon Musk proclaimed: "In 10 years, it will be very unusual for cars to be built that are not fully autonomous."
Take a look at the vehicle sitting in your driveway. It may be the last one you ever own. With an estimated 33 million fully autonomous cars and taxis projected to hit the road by 2040, an automotive renaissance is soon to be upon us. Personal car ownership currently costs the average sedan owner $9,000 annually. But car ownership may soon be a thing of the past.
Autonomous vehicles will be the most disruptive technology ever deployed by mankind.
- They'll change the way we eat, cook, and shop.
- They'll change the way we raise our children and the way we choose our spouses.
- They'll change the way we display our wealth and status.
- They'll change the way we build cities and design our homes.
- They'll change the way we dispense charity and the way we think about work.
- And, most importantly, they'll change the way that we think about each other and the way we see ourselves.
Since 1900, 3.7 million Americans have died in motor vehicle accidents (about 35,000 per year). But we will soon exit these "dark ages" of transportation. Thanks to several recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, we are about to usher in a new age - one in which auto collisions, traffic jams, and road fatalities almost never happen.
Soon, autonomous vehicles (of all shapes and sizes) will roam the city streets - delivering your pizza, dropping off your latest order from Amazon, and safely driving your children to school - under the watchful guidance of a dozen digital sensors.
We're about to embark on a fantastic voyage. A journey that will bring about a new age of technological enlightenment, with the potential to produce a world of great abundance - if we can avoid screwing it all up. In this book, we'll talk about the many potholes that lie on the road to the future. And we'll discuss how you can be economically prepared for the transportation revolution that is currently underway.

When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

Historia
Tesla is the envy of the automotive world. Born at the start of the millennium, it was the first car company to be valued at $1 trillion. Its CEO, the mercurial, charismatic Elon Musk has become not just a celebrity but the richest man in the world. But Tesla’s success was far from guaranteed. Founded in the 2000s, the company was built on an audacious vision. Musk and a small band of Silicon Valley engineers set out to make a car that was quicker, sexier, smoother, and cleaner than any gas-guzzler on the road.

In the popular imagination, superhuman artificial intelligence is an approaching tidal wave that threatens not just jobs and human relationships, but civilization itself. Conflict between humans and machines is seen as inevitable and its outcome all too predictable. In this groundbreaking audiobook, distinguished AI researcher Stuart Russell argues that this scenario can be avoided, but only if we rethink AI from the ground up. Russell begins by exploring the idea of intelligence in humans and in machines.

In 2006, John Doerr was moved by Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth and a challenge from his teenage daughter: “Dad, your generation created this problem. You better fix it.” Since then, Doerr has searched for solutions to this existential problem - as an investor, an advocate, and a philanthropist. Fifteen years later, despite breakthroughs in batteries, electric vehicles, plant-based proteins, and solar and wind power, global warming continues to get worse. Its impact is all around us: droughts, floods, wildfires, the melting of the polar ice caps.

The relationship between the US and China, the world’s two superpowers, is peculiarly volatile. Their militaries play a dangerous game of chicken, corporations steal intellectual property, intelligence satellites peer, and AI technicians plot. The capacity for either country to cross a fatal line grows daily. Kevin Rudd, a former Australian prime minister who has studied, lived in, and worked with China for more than forty years, is one of the very few people who can offer real insight into the mindsets of the leadership whose judgment will determine if a war will be fought.

Artificial intelligence is smarter than humans. It can process information at lightning speed and remain focused on specific tasks without distraction. AI can see into the future, predicting outcomes and even use sensors to see around physical and virtual corners. So why does Intelligence frequently get it so wrong? The answer is us. Humans design the algorithms that define the way that AI works and the processed information reflects an imperfect world.

But in the typical American city, the car is still king, and downtown is a place that’s easy to drive to but often not worth arriving at. In the century after the Civil War, an economic revolution improved the American standard of living in ways previously unimaginable. Electric lighting, indoor plumbing, home appliances, motor vehicles, air travel, air conditioning, and television transformed households and workplaces. With medical advances, life expectancy between 1870 and 1970 grew from 45 to 72 years. The Rise and Fall of American Growth provides an in-depth account of this momentous era.

Historia
For nearly 70 years, the suburbs were as American as apple pie. But in recent years things have started to change. An epic housing crisis revealed existing problems with this unique pattern of development, while the steady pull of long-simmering economic, societal and demographic forces has culminated in a Perfect Storm that has led to a profound shift in the way we desire to live. In The End of the Suburbs journalist Leigh Gallagher traces the rise and fall of American suburbia from the stately railroad suburbs that sprung up outside American cities in the 19th and early 20th centuries to current-day sprawling exurbs.

Historia
This first full-scale history of the development of the American suburb examines how "the good life" in America came to be equated with the a home of one's own surrounded by a grassy yard and located far from the urban workplace. Integrating social history with economic and architectural analysis, and taking into account such factors as the availability of cheap land, inexpensive building methods, and rapid transportation, Kenneth Jackson chronicles the phenomenal growth of the American suburb from the middle of the 19th century to the present day.

Physical infrastructure in the United States is crumbling. The American Society of Civil Engineers has, in its latest report, given American roads and bridges a grade of D and C+, respectively, and has described roughly 65,000 bridges in the United States as 'structurally deficient'. This crisis - and one need look no further than the I-35W bridge collapse in Minnesota to see that it is indeed a crisis - shows little sign of abating short of a massive change in attitude amongst politicians and the American public.

America is an urban nation. More than two thirds of us live on the three percent of land that contains our cities. Yet cities get a bad rap: they're dirty, poor, unhealthy, crime ridden, expensive, environmentally unfriendly. Or are they? As Edward Glaeser proves in this myth-shattering book, cities are actually the healthiest, greenest, and richest (in cultural and economic terms) places to live.

We tend to view prolonged economic downturns, such as the Great Depression of the 1930s and the Long Depression of the late 19th century, in terms of the crisis and pain they cause. But history teaches us that these great crises also represent opportunities to remake our economy and society and to generate whole new eras of economic growth and prosperity.

Advanced Preview Into the Future
I have a paperback of this book, which is a great read which includes photos and illustrations. The author then narrated this book by himself, so I went ahead and got this audiobook as well. Totally enjoyed the content even for someone who is maybe only 60% tech savvy!

Good First Look Ahead
Good Overview Of The Possible Impact Of Driverless Vehicles On Society. Nobody can predict the future but this book really made me think about the overall implications of autonomous transportation. It opened my eyes to things societally that I hadn't considered. This makes it a great read for anyone concerned with how modernization will affect society in the near future. I would actually have given it 4.5 stars if it was an option. However, it got a little tedious near the end. Overall, I liked it and recommend it.

Informative!
My son, who is studying aerospace, found the insight in the book interesting. The book gives insight into the features that future cars will provide. It provides insight into the features we could be expecting in the future with technological innovation, which has massively helped solve a lot of the past automobile industry statistics. Men have longed to greatly transverse distance. Flying cars is nothing impossible with technological advancement. Improvement in technology has made this to be what to look for now. It will be interesting to see how all these will be.
Many companies are trying to have self-driven features in cars. The car features will have electricity, solar power, or battery, and It will have an autonomous car with no dashboard. It will have only a seat and interface. Future vehicles will have to be connected with the internet and project future speed. And the fourth feature to see is that it will be paid for via an App. Robot's taxi is what it will be. Most future cars will be delivered and not carrying people.

autonomous vehicles need to be here sooner
I most look forward to fewer deaths and less congestion on the road and in the parking lot. I think a lot of people will still want to be able to drive, so many autonomous vehicles will still be designed with steering wheels for those who want to satiate their desire to be in direct control of something so powerful.

Human inventions
Regarding the notion that necessity is the mother of all inventions and that mankind needs ad ed adversity in order to thrive I have some reservations. Einstein said about himself: “I have no special talent, I am just curious beyond belief”. Technology or UBI will not change human nature and income inequality will not be alleviated . I liked the book very much and some of its insights will no doubt help me make a small fortune in the stock market :)

Thought provoking.
Author has provided a thoughtful analysis of the effects of automation on society which I found interesting. Too often technical books aim to be "Gee whiz", which can be fun to read, but are weaker in discussing how this technology will integrate with the world around it. This book deals with these details in appropriate depth, which made this a worthwhile read.

I absolutely loved it! the ideas in this book align perfectly for my overall plan for AI in vehicles! and to think that in 2009 people were laughing at my dream of a "knight rider world", but here is Tesla, AND HERE IS THE FUTURE! in this book, is the damn future.

Most interesting book I've listened to all year!
This book is the most underrated book on audible. Where has this author been hiding all my life? It doesn't matter because he will be famous once people discover this book. This book is jam-packed with the most interesting information on the planet in my opinion. He doesn't spare any detail yet he keeps the information as to the point as possible. Elon musk would be proud. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he endorsed this book one day. It's feels like Elon wrote it himself haha. For the price I paid for this book I almost feel like I was stealing. I mean you get so much information for so cheap that it's pretty much free. Just get this book. It's the only one of its kind.
