Captain Jessie Ramsey has brought the starship Arete to the hostile Eyndar Empire. She and her crew have traded the complexities of the Earth/Mars wars for the open hostility of a species that will shoot them on sight.
Their anti-piracy mission has evolved. Rather than simply clearing the star lanes for peaceful merchants and civilian transports, they're going after an illicit trade in sentient laborers. It's all going fine until one of the traffickers they capture reveals the location of a black market space station that makes their own operation look like small potatoes.
With a raid to plan and a space station full of enslaved people to liberate, the nice clean moral line blurs. An extraction operation on a grand scale, Captain Ramsey must contend with civilian bystanders, the safety of her own boarding parties, and the very people she's there to save all being in the line of fire.
And that's all before a mysterious second strike team arrives with an agenda all their own.
Horns and Halos is the ninth mission of Black Ocean: Passage of Time, a science fantasy series set in the late 26th century. What if Futurama jumped 5 years ahead instead of 1000? What if Doc and Marty lost the car keys? What if Bonnie and Clyde were siblings instead of lovers? Passage of Time jolts the Black Ocean universe forward into new adventures and new perils with a new cast of zany misfits trying to outsmart the galaxy just to get by.

She's always been a little different, so I had to look out for her—we usually just watched movies and played games together. One day, a suspicious pink-haired chick burst into the store, warning me not to watch a tape labeled Property of Steelheart—Do Not Watch! So obviously, I did, and a terrifying ghost crawled out of the screen.

The story and characters are flushed out
At this point in the story we know the main players new and old and have a vested interest in them and what there doing. I hate that I’m caught up and having to check audible daily to see if the next book has been released on audio. Best world building and story telling of mine or the previous generation. Thank you.
