Big-band frontman Johnny Favorite was singing for the troops when a Luftwaffe fighter squadron strafed the bandstand, killing the crowd and leaving the singer near death. If I were to compare this to anything, I would say it is almost a mix of Shutter Island and Fallout.
I am giving this book 3 and a half stars. This book was really well-written and the characters were interesting. My issue is I felt like the book didn’t really begin until way after the 50% mark. The first 2/3rds of the book dragged and had a lot of exposition but not much else.
That being said, once the book took off…it really took off. The book's last third was a full-force, adrenaline-pumping, thrill ride that made me want to keep reading.
If you are looking for a slow burn in the beginning kind of book, this one is for you
