Chinese mythology alone in this great follow up
This book is very slow paced and honestly there isn’t much to root for in the beginning (the story is too similar to Rebel Rose; there isn’t a defined time period and the characters- except for Liwen and Zhonglin- are fairly forgettable. The overly realistic setting take a turn for the worst when Mulan suddenly summons spirits and asks for their blessing out of nowhere (is this fantasy or magical realism?). I have to say that once the spirits came into the scene, the story got way more interesting and easy to follow. Filled with fighting scenes and a great ending.
