Magic, a Schipperke whose attachment with his owner becomes extraordinary, overcomes fears resulting from the brutal months before his adoption. Confined with older, bigger dogs, he spent his early life crammed into a hole in the Arizona desert. When Sharon Waters rescued him, she recognized his need for understanding and forgiveness for his defensive behavior. During the next twelve years they formed a special bond as Magic found joy with his little family, which included dog Cricket and a cat named Milo. Magic became a celebrity in Salem, Massachusetts; spent three years traveling in an RV; and developed courage as a protector of children and his animal friends. His owner changed also while leading him through his remarkable journey into confidence, trust, and finally a delight in living.

The passing of a beloved dog is uniquely wrenching. As they travel over the bridge without us, we are separated from our constant companion, counselor and best friend. The memory of these “fur kids” never leaves us. New dogs ease the loss and assume the role of friend and companion, but they never replace the special ones we hold so close to our hearts.
