So Good! So Dark! You'll hate to LOVE it!!

The writing in this book is soooo fantastic! As my first BB Reid book, I was extremely impressed! And those sex scenes... HOLLY HOTNESS MAN! I'm surprised my iPhone didn't just burst into flames or combust! Seriously... the heat between Lake and Kieran was out of this world hot! Yes, it was also incredibly dark!

I have never in my life been so confused by a book... I disliked Kieran so much more than I think I have any other character... ever. Well, how the heck did I end up caring what happened to him? Feeling pain for him? Sympathizing with his feelings because there's no way I could understand his feelings or his actions. So how did I end up caring for a character that I wished would implode? BB Reid, that's how... she somehow created this dominating, alpha male character like I've never read before. Reid made him.... somehow... likable? Or perhaps you just feel for him? Either way, you don't just feel disgust... ok, you do feel disgust for most of the book but somewhere around 60% you realize you don't want his death to be as bloody. I don't know how she did it, but she did... that's talent!

I grew to love this whole cast and crew. They were all so likable. Lake I just completely adored and really rooted for her. I LOVE Willow. I mean, shouldn't we all be so lucky to have such a loyal friend? The secondary relationships were just as intriguing as the main characters. I'm thrilled to see that I'm going to get a book on them too. I loved everything about this book. I removed 1 star because some of the story seemed a bit too far-fatched... I know, I know... I'm annoying this is FICTION... the sky is the limit! There is no far-fetched! But... it was the lack of parental involvement for really anyone but Willow's mom. I mean, how can everyone be scared of this one high schooler? How can no parents stand up for their child? I don't know, but that was my complaint.

Also, I listened to this book on audio and holly amazing Batman! This audio performance was one of the BEST I've heard and I'm an audio addict (Seriously, I have a problem)! Ava Erickson is the narrator and I had to double check that there wasn’t some male back up thrown in... there isn't one! Woot Erickson! You pulled off voice changes super impressively! I could FEEL Lake's pain in her voice, I could feel her fear, her hurt, her outrage. She had superb voice changes for every character. I just can't get over the guy voices. I mean you could feel the contempt Kieran held for Lake... just fantastic work! Seriously impressed!

Frustratingly good!!!

Ok I tend not to write much reviews because usually all I want to discuss is how the book made feel...when so and so did this or that lol which is giving out spoilers with that said I'll keep it short but sweet.
Lake an 18 year senior in high school was frustratingly mind numminly stupid....this book made me think back to when I was in high school and how stupid I was...but she just seem so much worst . Anyhow if you feel you can stand the constant beat down of a YA girl in a love hate relationship then you maybe able to read to the end if only to fine out if she grows a stronger back bone...a say stronger because someone else might of killed them self.
Agravatingly enough lol I will be reading book two it's like a dam YA soaps opera

unsettled-the high school setting was off putting

I was constantly distracted by the fact the characters in this story are seniors in high school.

For me barely legal high school mentally processing at the level they do and their power exchanges was not effortlessly believable. It was very distracting to me to always be brought back to 'class', as there was no way I could even pretend they were not in high school.

The story and characters would of been a winner if the whole high school thing went away. I will not be spending any more time on this story line.

Don't get me started on how authors are making separate books for the same continuing story line. That this one is guilty of.

Long way but worth it

Ava makes this worthwhile. She is an amazing narrator. I just keep trying to remember the characters have 18 years old. Overall this was pretty good.

Hurt Me So Good

I very rarely do re-reads and much less one month after having read it the first time. However, Keiran is not your typical hero and I needed to experience him again.

This story is in its own category. Our hero, anti-hero really, invites genuine fear in our heroine and with good reason. He takes control to the next level. So much so that in the thousands of books that I’ve read, I’ve yet to find his equal in the matter. I know that a relationship like this in real life would definitely have some glaring red flags but I couldn’t put the book down. I needed to get through the layers. What I found was a powerful story where things aren’t what they seemed to be at first. I love the range of emotions that I felt even if a good portion of the time it was anger, sadness and disbelief.

Lake was amazing. She was a strong heroine to me but not in the obvious ways. What others may see as a weakness, I admired because she didn’t let her situation break her. She got through to Keiran in ways that nobody had before and the process and result was absolutely compelling.

These two together were raw fire. The intimacy was fantastic even as most of it was not sweet at all. The little details made a huge difference.

The secondary characters were unique, dynamic, and very interesting. They were used to move the story forward very well.

The setting to me was a bit unrealistic (high school) and it felt definitely more mature than teenagers. The intimidation in the adults in their lives was also a bit of a stretch but it sure as heck didn’t stop me from immersing myself in the book. The writing was well done. Great pacing.

Safety: Comfort level? What comfort level? This will push your boundaries. Wait.. “push” is not quite the word. “Break” is the right word. This is not a safe read. At all. There is abuse, depending on your interpretation, in most if not all ways. I’ll be glad to answer your questions via message but I will say that I’m really glad I read this book and the rest in the series.

Truth's or lies. oh your gonna want to read this it will have your mind spinning with love and hate, when it comes to Lake and her so called guy friend. murder, suspense , and lots of dark sex.

This was such a good guilty pleasure and I can't wait to finish the series!

very interesting book

i would highly recommend this book. it is so much more than a romance novel, the characters are deep and complex. the story line is very interesting and I can't wait to listen to the next book!

Ava Erickson narration

Love this book the story has you on an emotional roller-coaster. Ava Erickson did such an amazing job voicing each character.

Narration

Decent story but one narrator kinda killed some of this story. Would be better if recorded in duel narration. Also the speed the narrator speaks at is easy slow, I sped it up to 1.5.
