At an annual fete in St. Denis, Bruno's biggest worry is surviving in the rally race. The rally and a classic car parade are new to the festivities and draw a spate of outsiders with deep pockets, big-city egos, and, in the case of a young Englishman, an intriguing story. It's the tale of a Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic, lost somewhere in Southern France during World War II. Among the most beautiful cars ever made, one of only four of its kind, it is worth untold millions and drives its pursuers mad with greed.

As the parade begins, a local scholar turns up dead - and Bruno suspects unnatural causes. To complicate matters, a family squabble over land brings to St. Denis a comely Parisienne who turns Bruno's head. And there's mounting evidence that the events in St. Denis are linked to international crime.

As usual, Bruno's village life offers its challenges - but there is always time for a good bottle and a home-cooked meal.

Hooray for Bruno and St. Denis

excellent storyline and the narration was perfect. the description of the meals left my mouth watering

Still great

Every book continues to develop the characters and add new mystery. The delight is in the telling.

Good story, but please fix the women characters

I sit here as a happy woman with a lucrative career, bread winner, happily married with a child, love for cooking, in a home with a garden that I own, wondering again and again why in the 21st century Walker seems to think there are exactly two types of women - subservient farmer's daughters or career women who don't want a family. Then there's the random women throughout who are seemingly exactly what Bruno wants, like Florence or Fabiola, and he never even considers them. It's so frustrating and it's getting really old.

Another engrossing story of the Perigord in France

Martin Walker once again gives us a great story involving contemporary and World War II issues in this beautiful region along the Dordogne river. Bruno, his hero, is as he always has been, which is to say I enjoy watching him track down the solution to the mystery, even as I'm getting a little tired of his willingness to fall in love with the suspect. Spoiler alert: he got lucky this time. She wasn't the murderer. The narration is strong, although as I believe I have mentioned before, I don't care for this narrator's take on his female characters. He sometimes infuses them with a coy quality that I have never heard exhibited by a contemporary adult woman. It's not a dealbreaker, but I wish he'd ease off just a bit.

Not as good as most of the series

Just didn’t keep me interested as most of the series has. It took forever to come together. A little disappointed.

Bruno: Gourmet Murder Mystery

The Bruno strories bridge the gap between foodie stories and murder mysteries. It’s hard to say which Bruno is better at, cooking mouth watering meals or solving crime. Either way it makes for a great read.

So sorry to see this book end

Oh, I love stepping into Bruno's world! For a few days I'm living in St Denis and craving Bruno's cooking. Sure, there's a murder or two but that's the price for this pleasure.

FATAL PURSUIT was well worth waiting for. I have an interest in cars and rallying so this was especially enjoyable. Bruno and his strong, independent women, though! Will he ever find one with whom he can achieve his goal of a family? I like that Isabel keeps making an appearance. They are good together.

Why am I always hungry while reading these books? ;-: Martin Walker is amazing with his descriptions of cooking processes and menus.

While reading this (listening actually), I figured any one of several characters could be the murderer(s). I like that in a book. This latest in the Bruno series is another fabulous addition. I hope we get many more.

The narration by Robert Ian Mackenzie added to the enjoyment of this book. He was wonderful.

The car

The hunt for the car mixed with a homicide and Bruno’s cooking was exceptionally good.
Always a good read.

I loved this book. The Bugati story line much better than politics. Still hoping that Bruno finds true love!
