A Siege of Terra Anthology

Horus is dead. His Heresy is over. The scars of mankind’s great schism will never fully heal. For those left behind, a new Era of Ruin is dawning, promising both new beginnings and fresh peril for an Imperium riven by trauma and war.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

This is the final instalment of the Horus Heresy – but that was just the beginning of a much darker tale which will be 10,000 years in the telling. These short stories show us glimpses of the stories that spun out of the Siege of Terra as the fledgling Imperium put together the pieces after the galaxy-shattering destruction, and those who fought on both sides, as they try to move on from the unthinkable events of the bloody conflict.

THE STORY

In Chris Wraight’s Homebound, Ilya Ravallion must choose between the decimated White Scars and living out what remains of her life in peace. An embattled Ahzek Ahriman must race against time to learn what he can of the warp before its gates close to him forever in Ex Libris by John French.

Featuring tales from Dan Abnett, Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Guy Haley and many more, this anthology follows mighty Custodians, scheming sorcerers, and the lowly footsoldiers of the Imperial Army as all negotiate the devastating aftermath of Humanity's greatest reckoning.

good voice acting but the story focuses on random loose ends that didn't play huge roles in the heresy, waste of a credit.

no ground breaking revelations

Some of the stories are a bit lackluster in their epic value that the siege brought. Though this was a great introduction into a new saga and opens up new storylines for ‘The Scouring’ to come and of the unknown gates of different Primarchs.

Great Anthology

Ties up a few subplots from the heresy without really shedding light on anything massive in the aftermath of the siege. The stories they chose to cover were fine but I would’ve preferred some different perspectives from Dorn, Guilliman, the Lion, Abbadon and others. I guess they will save that for The Scouring series. All the VA did a phenomenal job as always.

It’s fine, but skippable

I wish it was longer! You will recognize a few familiar names and some you wish you heard more about. This almost felt like an appetizer to a full length novel on the end of the SOT and the beginning of The Scouring.

Nice addition to the collection

so many threads unresolved so many opportunities to finish stories like what happened to John gramaticus and other integral characters

loved to see the resolution of some stories

a few of the stories were fantastic, but overall it was Meh for me. kind of a sad way to end so much a fantastic part of the last fifteen years of my Hersey journey.
would have been great had they had a story about the 13th actually making it to Tera and how the smurfs felt about lagging for as long as they did.
This collection of shorts could have been great but like the siege of tera it can be summed up with a sound even my cat can make....meh.

did not resolve much...

The point of this volume does not seem to be that of concluding the The Siege of Terra but to tie up some loose ends and tell some interesting stories that the authors still had, that could not or should not have been included in what was already a very long main story.

Some of these stories are more interesting than others and will be re-read and others just add some color or tone to the setting. In general they generate a tone of ruin in the aftermath of the main story that will bridge the gap to the next main plot line of The Scouring.

I honestly wanted to see the Avenging Son arrive, and feel what he felt and watch his too late legion interact with the surviving broken legions and primarchs but that isn’t what this story is about; it clearly dances around the edges of this leaving it for another day.

Overall this omnibus (of sorts) is middle of the road in quality and desirable information. Some stories, like those involving the Custodes have some depth and will require relistening.

The audio performance is fair.

(one day we will get the 3rd Bequin novel, probably the day Winds of Winter is released 😉)

Finishes Unnecessary Loose Ends Well Enough

I know that others and myself were expecting something different. We were expecting more views from the Primarch’s and the great scouring. However, I was delightfully, surprised that none of that was the case. How much is this book surrounds all of the side characters in the siege of tarot series. I believe this book did a very good job at ending several other stories. The new voice actor was phenomenal. The stories individually written were phenomenal. Once again, Dan Abbnett wrote a beautiful story and then disappeared and did not elaborate. This book offers closure for your favorite side characters from the siege of terra, but does not give you next to anything regarding the beginnings of the great scouring, or the Primarch’s thoughts after the Emperor‘s interment onto the golden throne.

Not what I expected

Please never let Shogo narrate another story. He is so flat and droning. It’s a jarring shift from the dynamic emotional reading we get from Johnathan Keeble and Toby Longworth. Most of the stories are interesting enough but by the throne this narration nearly put me to sleep.

“Okay” Stories

You can skip this one unless you're a completionist. The stories end minor narrative arcs.
