Fantastic Voicing

Excellent story for those interested in the Third Legion and particularly Eidolon. I recommend coming to it after reading the other Emperor's Children novels in the Horus Heresy for context, though the story will make sense enough without. It's short for a Warhammer novel but the narration made up for it. Eidolon is a fairly unlikeable character in the series, but this book gives him some dimension which helps to understand him better and give him his own deepened motivations and trials.

The third legion given character

Standard heresy story, but a good view into the mind of a character that has been a part of the lore for a long time. Eidolon stands out as the only true “leader” in the emperor’s children rather than being just an eccentric with followers like Fabius.

Eidolon needs a Model on the Tabletop

It’s seems kind of obvious, Eidolon has been in the setting from the start and this book proves that with a little bit of focus you can bring a character to life. I think the writer perfectly captured what Eidolon should be to the Emperor’s Children. A force that directs the excesses of the legion as he desires and following his own arrogant path. GW please give him a model.

solid story, tremendous character development

honestly didn't realize how shallow Eidolon felt until I got towards the mid or later point of this book, the character needed the development and got it.
it's a little bolter porn sometimes but that's alright

The writing

I loved the change in tones for the voices to show never born and other daemonic characters, such as the shattered king

Great narration and excellent expansion on story and lore

Really great. Not much expansion on emperors children lore so it’s nice to get such a storh

Daddy Issues the Book

Always love seeing more of one of my favorite Legions, we get to see what the invading armies of the 3rd were dealing with as they began their assault upon the Imperium. Internal politics are thick amongst the Emperor's Children and no one feels it quite as much as Commander Eidolon. Demons are prevalent, spewing their tempting offers from Slaanesh, so much so that it has affected the Commander's mind. Eidolon is not a character that you will root for, the man is defiantly a dick, but all of this comes from his previous issues with Fulgrim. You might initially think this is a justified and interesting part of his character...but this leads to nowhere. Eidolon is the same at the beginning as he is at the end, and not even an attempt at reconciliation with Daddy Fulgrim will change that. Final Chapter is by far the best part, just not sure if going through the book was worth it to get here.

Titular Character is ho-hum

In previous 40k books, I always found Eidolon massively uninteresting. This book did nothing to disabuse me of that perception.
